NAVI MUMBAI: The home team continued its winning spree at the Under-16 Youth I-League Football Championship. Football School of India (FSI) won its second match this season at Father Agnel ground in Vashi on Friday evening. The local boys beat Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS) at 3-0 in a one-sided match.
The players were inspired to give their best as the match was graced by Arjuna awardee Deepak Mondal and former India team captains, Venkatesh S and Abhishek Yadav.
The local players also got some tips from these star footballers.
The city players launched an aggressive game right from the start. It took them only 15 minutes to open their score account, with Kamran Siddique scoring the opening goal.
But the FSI boys did not rest after taking the lead and extended their advantage to 2-0 when Prithvi Sawant found himself inside the penalty box to score in the 21st minute.
The home team blasted past Reliance’s defence in the second half to extend FSI’s lead to 3-0 with Kartik Bele scoring the last goal.
The Reliance team tried hard to get back into the game but were no match for the spirited Navi Mumbai players. “We got the early breakthrough and continued to dominate both defense and attack till the end of the match,” said Hemant Zende, FSI coach.
