NOIDA: The state transport department has decided to launch an online process for obtaining the driver’s licence. However, it has only been launched in Lucknow right now, and Noida has to wait before it can start submitting applications online, even though – or because of it, as the department says – the demand for it is far bigger in Noida than in Lucknow.
The application process, which is in a trial phase in Lucknow, is expected to be launched in Noida in the first week of March, according to the state transport department. Rachna Yaduvanshi, the assistant regional transport officer, Gautam Buddha Nagar, told us, “The online application process for a driving licence is in a trial period in Lucknow. We have not started it in Noida yet because people are more tech-savvy here and once they get to know about the online process, they will just ‘attack’ it. So, before we deal with that sort of rush, we want to be sure of the new process. The transport officials and the National Informatics Centre (NIC) are tracking the whole process and the results are satisfying.”
Rachna adds, “At present, the department provides time slots and gives online appointments to obtain the licence. But under the new process, one can upload the relevant documents on the RTO website and deposit the amount online. They will be required to come to the office for biometric confirmation and the driving test. Following which, the department will send the licence through post.”
