Pune: A car ran over two stray dogs while they were sleeping on roadside in front of Amey apartments at Shaniwar Peth around 11pm on Wednesday.
The Vishrambaug police on Thursday booked the 42-year-old car driver on the charge of causing the animal’s death.
Neena Rai, president of Pawsect Animal Welfare society foundation an NGO who is the complainant in the case on Friday said, “An eye witness called me saying that the driver lost control and ran over the dogs and fled.
The witness chased the driver to his house and then informed the police.”
Rai said, “The dogs were rushed to a veterinary doctor but they were proclaimed dead on arrival. The post-mortem revealed that the cause of deaths was due to multiple injuries.”
Investigation officer Ganesh Bhujbal said, “We have seized the car. The driver was taken to the Sassoon general hospital where his blood sample was collected to establish if he was driving under the influence. A notice has been served asking him to join police in investigations,”
