Pune: Residents of Warje and Baner-Balewadi have demanded solutions to the erratic and low-pressure water supply they have been getting for the last few days. Further, former corporators from these localities have resorted to agitations and threatened to intensify protests if the civic authorities fail to address the matter.
Baba Dhumal, a former corporator of Warje, said water supply has not been streamlined for the last four days in many pockets.
“Last week, Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) water supply department announced closure of supply for a day for maintenance and repairs. Thereafter, low-pressure supply continued. We have been raising this issue of delays in restoration of supply, but the civic body has failed to improve the system,” said Dhumal.
A delegation of residents led by Dhumal also met water supply department officials and demanded immediate improvements.
A similar agitation was held by Amol Balwadkar, former corporator from the Baner-Balewadi area, to draw the attention of the civic body to low pressure water supply being received by residents.
He said an agitation has been started at the sites of overhead water tanks from where water is supplied to these areas. “Water is not released on time, nor at the adequate pressure. Residents face disruptions for many days. The situation should improve at the earliest,” Balwadkar said.
Amol Shinde, a resident of Aundh, said, “The distribution system has been facing lot of leakages, despite repeated repairs.
PMC needs to explain what repairs are being carried out every alternate week,” he put forth.
A water supply department official said, “We will visit Warje and other areas to check on water pressure problems and plug loopholes.”
