Himachal Pradesh Election Results 2024 Live Updates: BJP clean sweeps Himachal Pradesh, wins Mandi, Kangra, Hamirpur and Shimla Lok Sabha seats

Four Congress turncoats, who recently joined the BJP in Himachal Pradesh, on Tuesday lost the by-elections from their respective assembly segments, the Election Commission figures showed.With victory in four assembly segments, the strength of Congress MLAs has gone up to 38 in the house with an effective strength of 65. The result ensures that there is no immediate threat to the Congress government in the state for now.

Union minister Anurag Thakur won the Hamirpur parliamentary seat for the fifth consecutive time, defeating his nearest rival from Congress Satpal Raizada by a margin of 1,82,357 votes. The senior BJP leader polled 6,07,068 votes against 4,24,711 votes bagged by Raizada, a former MLA from Una, , according to the Election Commission.
Expressing confidence that the BJP-led NDA would once again form its government at the Centre, Thakur said India had progressed a lot under Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the last 10 years and this process would continue.

The people of Himachal Pradesh have given their hundred per cent support to the BJP and it would return to them the same once its government is formed again, he added.

Stakes were high for Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Thakur in Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency as assembly segments of the CM, Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri and cabinet minister Rajesh Dharmani fell under this constituency.

Revolt in the state Congress made the parliamentary contest interesting in Hamirpur.

The BJP's sitting MP in the Shimla parliamentary seat Suresh Kashyap defeated Congress' Vinod Sultanpuri by 91,451 votes on Tuesday.

Kashyap polled 5,19,748 votes while Vinod Sultanpuri, the MLA from Kasauli Assembly seat and the son of six-time MP from Shimla K D Sultanpuri, managed to get 4,28, 297 votes.

The former state BJP chief told PTI that the results seemed to be on the lines of exit poll prediction and people had decided to make Narendra Modi prime minister for the third time in a row.

In the 2022 polls in Himachal Pradesh, the Congress won 13 Assembly segments under the Shimla parliamentary constituency while the BJP could manage only three.

However, in the Lok Sabha polls, the Congress could not secure a lead in most of the assembly segments even though the party had given the lion's share in the state ministry as well as three chief parliamentary secretaries and deputy speaker of Vidhan Sabha from these segments.

Moreover, the Samyukt Kisan Manch (SKM), claiming to have the support of 27 apple, stone fruit and vegetable growers associations, had extended its support to the Congress.

Hike in import duty on apples, poor condition of roads, frequent landslides, hydropower projects, illegal mining, manufacturing of sub-standard drugs and lack of adequately developed industrial infrastructure were the key issues of this constituency.

However, Kashyap's poll campaign banked heavily on PM Narendra Modi's charisma as well as development projects in the region, including the sanctioning of projects worth Rs 27,000 crore.

The Shimla parliamentary constituency, which came into existence in 1967 after the merger of the hilly areas of Punjab, has remained reserved for SC since its inception and out of 14 Lok Sabha polls held since then, the Congress won nine times, BJP thrice and Janta Party and Himachal Vikas Congress (HVC) once each.

Accepting the party's defeat in four Lok Sabha seats in the state, Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president Pratibha Singh on Tuesday said the election results did not come as per expectation and the reason behind defeat would be reviewed.

Expressing gratitude to the voters who cast their votes in favour of her party in the Lok Sabha elections, she said the Congress has never backed down from its responsibility and will never do so.

The Congress leader congratulated all the BJP candidates, who won in the Lok Sabha elections, and expressed hope that they would make a significant contribution to the development of the state in accordance with public aspirations.

She also congratulated the Congress leaders, who won the by-elections in the state, and said that their victory has further strengthened the Congress government in the state.

The results of the by-elections has proved that the people of the state are strongly with the Congress government, she added.

Meanwhile, Public Works Minister and Congress candidate from Mandi Lok Sabha seat Vikramaditya Singh said that although he did not get success in the elections but he is fully dedicated to his vision of development of the Mandi constituency and will fulfill it at all costs.

He expressed his gratitude to all voters, who supported him wholeheartedly in the elections. He also congratulated his rival Kangana Ranaut of the BJP for her victory.

Addressing the media persons, Singh said that victory and defeat in elections are two sides of the same coin.

Singh said that he respects the mandate and accepts it. He said that he has always stood with the people of Mandi and will always do so.

Singh further said that the country has completely rejected Prime Minister Narendra Modi's slogan of crossing 400 seats and added that the BJP is not able to cross even the 250 figure.

BJP was won the Mandi, Kangra and Hamirpur Lok Sabha seats in Himachal Pradesh and the party is way ahead of the Congress in the remaining parliamentary constituency of Shimla, according to Election Commission data.

Union minister Anurag Thakur won the Hamirpur parliamentary seat for the fifth consecutive time, defeating his nearest rival and Congress candidate Satpal Raizada by a margin of 1,82,357 votes, according to the Election Commission.

The four-time MP polled 6,07,068 votes against 4,24,711 votes bagged by Raizada, a former MLA from Una.

Thakur voiced optimism that the BJP-led NDA would once again form the government in the country and thanked the people for giving a massive mandate to the party in Himachal Pradesh.

BJP's Kangana Ranaut, a Bollywood actor, has defeated her rival, Congress's Vikramaditya Singh by 74,755 votes in Mandi.

She polled 5,37,002 votes against 4,62,267 votes polled to King of erstwhile Rampur state, who is also the sitting state Public Works Minister and son of six times chief minister Virbhadra Singh and state Congress chief Pratibha Singh.

In Kangra, BJP's nominee Rajiv Bhardwaj has won the seat by a margin of 2,51,895 votes.

Bhardwaj's Congress rival Anand Sharma has conceded defeat.

"Contesting from Kangra was a splendid experience and I accept my defeat humbly and congratulate Rajiv Bhardwaj for his success," Sharma, a former Union minister, said.

"I am thankful to the Congress party leadership and colleagues who trusted me and I accepted the party's decision knowing that Kangra was a BJP bastion," he said.

"I am grateful to the people of Kangra and Chamba for their love and affection," he added.

In Shimla, former state BJP president and sitting party MP Suresh Kashyap is leading by 90,548 votes over his nearest Congress rival Vinod Sultanpuri.

Kashyap said that the results seemed to be on the lines of exit polls and that people had made up their mind to make Narendra Modi the prime minister for a third time.

State BJP chief Rajiv Bindal said people have once again given the mandate to the party.

The BJP is leading on all four Lok Sabha seats in Himachal Pradesh despite the fact that the Congress government "misused" its power, Bindal said in a video message.

He said this is a "major defeat" of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who has "failed to deliver" in his government's 18-month tenure so far.

Actor Kangana Ranaut on Tuesday won the Mandi constituency of Himachal Pradesh, defeating her closest rival Vikramaditya Singh of the Congress by 74,755 votes.

Ranaut, a first-time contender for the BJP, received 537022 votes in her first Lok Sabha election as a political leader.

After the result announcement, the 37-year-old shared a video on her official X page in which she can be seen signing official documents.

"Mandi ki sansad," Ranaut captioned her post.

Hours before, the four-time National Award winner had shared an Instagram post thanking the people from her constituency for her forthcoming victory.

"Heartfelt gratitude to all the people of Mandi for this love and trust... This victory belongs to all of you, this is the victory of your trust in Prime Minister Modi and BJP, this is the victory of Sanatan and in the honour of Mandi," she wrote.

The "Queen" actor had also shared photos with her mother Asha feeding her 'dahi-shakkar' for good luck after early trends put her ahead of Singh.

Ranaut, who made her acting debut at the age of 17 with Anurag Basu's 200g film "Gangster", was not the only actor who sought votes from citizens; others being another newcomer "Ramayan" star Arun Govil (Meerut), two-time Mathura MP Hema Malini, and TMC candidate Shatrughan Sinha from Asansol in the fray.

Ranaut -- who hails from the Mandi constituency -- was certainly the most talked about contender among them, who ran her entire campaign on being the daughter of the soil. She also gained public sympathy due to derogatory comments from opposition leaders for her acting background.

The Padma Shri recipient, a firebrand actor who had once famously called out Karan Johar as the "flagbearer of nepotism" and sparked a debate on insider versus outsider in Bollywood, is looking forward to starting a new chapter in life as a BJP MP. Even before she was officially announced as the BJP Mandi candidate, Ranaut was an outspoken supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and backed the leader on issues such as the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in 2019-20 and farmers' protests and was also invited to the grand consecration ceremony of the idol of Ram Lalla at Ayodhya's Ram temple.

In this year, BJP's Rajeev Bhardwaj won the Kangra seat against Congress' Anand Sharma. Bhardwaj won the seat with a margin of 2,51,895 seats.

Kangra is a significant parliamentary constituency in Himachal Pradesh, consisting of 17 assembly segments across various districts like Chamba and Kangra.

BJP candidate from Kutlehar assembly seat Davinder Bhutto, one of the six Congress rebels, on Tuesday lost to his Congress' rival Vivek Sharma by a margin of 5,356 votes.

Sharma polled 3,68,53 votes while Bhutto managed to get 3,14,97, according to teh Election Commission data. A total of four candidates were in the fray from this seat.

Kutlehar is one of the six assembly constituencies which fell vacant after six Congress rebels voted for BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan in Rajya Sabha polls and were later disqualified by the speaker for defying the whip by the Congress.

BJP's Kangana Ranaut won the Mandi Lok Sabha elections. Actor turned politician joined BJP this year and was actively participating in the campaigns.

BJP candidate from Sujanpur assembly seat Rajinder Rana lost to Congress' Ranjit Singh by a margin of 2,440 votes in the Himachal Pradesh by-elections, according to the Election Commission.

Rana, a Congress rebel who had defeated former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal in the 2017 assembly polls, got 27,089 votes against 29,529 polled by Singh, a retired Captain.

The Sujanpur assembly by-election saw a repeat of the 2022 election with the two old rivals Rana and Singh up against each other, except that they had swapped their parties this time.

While Rana recently switched to the BJP, Singh joined the Congress after Rana was given a BJP ticket for the Sujanpur bypoll.

In 2022, Rana had defeated Singh by a slender margin of 399 votes. Later Rana had raised the banner of revolt against Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

The Sujanpur constituency has 77,742 voters. The voter turnout was 63.76 percent in the by-election, which was held simultaneously with Lok Sabha polls on June 1.

Sujanpur is one of the six assembly constituencies which had fallen vacant after six Congress rebels voted for BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan in the Rajya Sabha polls and were later disqualified by the speaker for defying the whip by not remaining present in the house during voting on cut motions and passing of Budget.

Congress candidate Anuradha Rana on Tuesday won the Lahaul and Spiti bypolls by defeating Independent candidate and former BJP minister Ram Lal Markanda by a margin of 1,960 votes.

It was after 52 years that a woman contested elections from Lahaul and Spiti and Rana became the second woman to win from the assembly segment.

Rana polled 9,414 votes against 7,454 votes polled by Markanda while BJP candidate Ravi Thakur stood third with 3,049 votes.

This assembly constituency is the largest in size, covering 25 percent of total area of Himachal with lowest number of electorate (25,967).

The voter turnout was 75.09 percent.
