Thiruvananthapuram: Thiruvallam police arrested two youths on Tuesday for allegedly attempting to murder a shop owner following a dispute over payment for tobacco products.
The accused were identified as Vishnu, 36, a native of Vazhamuttom, Vellar and Vaishakh, 35, a resident of Valiyakode in Kottarakkara. The incident occurred on Sunday.
According to the police, the duo purchased tobacco products from the shop but refused to pay. When the shop owner demanded the money, the accused allegedly forced their way into the shop, verbally abused and physically assaulted him. They also vandalised the premises, damaging goods and causing losses.
The attack escalated into an attempt to kill the shop owner, prompting immediate police action. Acting on the complaint, the Thiruvallam police registered a case and launched an investigation, leading to the swift arrest of the accused.
Police said Vishnu is involved in multiple criminal cases registered at Thiruvallam police station and Kovalam police station. Vaishakh also has cases registered against him at Ezhukone police station.
Both accused were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody. Further investigation is in progress.
