Trichy: Schools across the district are set to reopen on Thursday after the summer vacation, with authorities completing preparations for the new academic year and ensuring the availability of free textbooks, notebooks and uniforms for students.
Schools were originally scheduled to reopen on June 1 for Class IV to XII and June 4 for Class I to III. However, the state govt postponed the reopening to June 4 owing to prevailing summer heat conditions.
Trichy district has 2,123 schools, including 1,297 govt schools, 363 govt-aided schools, 457 private schools and six central govt schools. Officials said textbooks and uniforms have been kept ready for distribution in govt and aided schools on the first day of reopening. Cleaning works in govt schools were completed over the past week. Classrooms have been readied, desks and chairs arranged, and drinking water and toilet facilities made operational.
A virtual meeting of headmasters was conducted on Wednesday, during which they were instructed to ensure all arrangements were in place and to continue student admissions.
Meanwhile, more than 1,200 teachers attended a three-day training programme on the revised curriculum for Class I to III held across Trichy and Lalgudi educational districts.
