Gorakhpur: Chief minister
Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday inspected a smart road constructed under the CM grid (green road infrastructure development) scheme in Raptinagar, terming it a model project that would not only improve urban infrastructure but also generate assured revenue for the Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation.
Expressing satisfaction over the quality of construction, the CM said the smart road, equipped with an advanced utility duct system, would emerge as a permanent source of income for the civic body. During the inspection, he sought detailed information from the municipal commissioner on various aspects of the project, including parking facilities, benches, greenery, storm water management, utility ducts and construction technology. The municipal commissioner said that the Raptinagar road had been developed as a pilot project under the scheme.

CM Yogi said the smart road had been designed to prevent repeated digging, as all essential services such as electricity and gas pipelines could be laid through the utility ducts. "This ensures durability of the road and convenience for service providers," he said.
Highlighting the financial benefits, the CM said institutions using the utility ducts for laying pipelines would pay rent to the municipal corporation, helping it earn nearly Rs2 crore annually. "This is a model road which will help urban local bodies enhance their revenue," he added. Emphasising collective effort, Yogi said when all stakeholders work together, cities, districts and the state scale new heights of development. "Gorakhpur is witnessing development in this very spirit," he said.
