Visakhapatnam: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP) and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–50 kmph) at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP), Yanam, and Rayalaseema on May 5 and 6. The rainfall activity is expected to bring much-needed relief from the scorching heat and humidity.As per the IMD, few places over CAP experienced rainfall between Saturday morning and Sunday morning, and dry weather prevailed over the Rayalaseema region. Between Saturday and Sunday morning, Sompeta in Srikakulam district recorded 5 cm of rainfall, followed by 2 cm each in Tekkali and Pathapatnam, and 1 cm each in Prathipadu (Kakinada), Chinturu (ASR), and Mandasa (Srikakulam). Parts of Tuni, Kakinada, Narsapur, and ASR district also experienced thundershowers, while cloudy weather prevailed in Vizag.Meanwhile, Nellore and Kurnool emerged as the hottest locations in the state on May 3, recording maximum temperatures of 43.1°C. Nandyal followed at 42.8°C, with Kavali and Kadapa at 42.6°C each, Tirupati at 42.4°C, Ongole at 41.7°C, Anantapur and Jangamaheswarapuram at 41.5°C, Nandigama at 40.1°C, and Bapatla at 40°C.The IMD has further forecast thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds at isolated places over CAP, Yanam, and Rayalaseema on May 4 and May 7, while hot and humid conditions are likely over NCAP and Yanam on May 4.
