Uttar Pradesh election result 2022: Aam Aadmi Party fails to impress voters in Kanpur

KANPUR: Aam Aadmi Party which has stormed to power in Punjab, failed to impress voters in the Industrial City. All 10 candidates of AAP lost in city. The 10 candidates of AAP got less than 10,000 votes (9,356 votes precisely). Infact, NOTA got more votes than AAP. A total of 11,454 votes were cast in favour of NOTA. AAP had contested UP elections for the first time.
Seven out of 10 AAP candidates got less than 1,000 votes in their respective constituency. Kawardeep Singh Chintu Fauji emerged among AAP candidates who got highest number of votes. He got 2,141 votes. Kawardeep had contested from Govind Nagar assembly. This assembly has been won by BJP’s Surendra Maithani. Vivek Dwivedi who contested from Kidwai Nagar constituency got 1,129 votes. Sanjay Pal who contested from Ghatampur constituency got 1,428 votes.
Rashid Jamal got the lowest number of votes among all the 10 AAP candidates. Only 536 voters voted for him. Rashid contested from Kanpur Cantt seat. 740 voters from this constituency opted for NOTA (None Of The Above).
Though, AAP did not do well in Uttar Pradesh, people were in awe of their storming success in Punjab where the party is set to form next government. However, AAP leadership believes that they would perform better during the local body elections scheduled to be held this year itself.
