'Border 2' producer Nidhi Dutta, daughter of filmmaker JP Dutta, recently opened up about why Tabu was not cast in the upcoming sequel of the film. In an interview with IANS, Nidhi Dutta shared, "Sunny Deol is not playing Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri in the film. You must have understood from all the assets from the film that Major Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri, who he played in the first film, is a different character. So obviously, the wife will also be different."

Nidhi Dutta shares how 'Border 2' happened

Dutta further added that the late CDS General Bipin Rawat entrusted them with the responsibility of the film. She revealed that a few years ago the late Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat, had called her and her father in Delhi for a meeting. The producer added that the late army officer shared 22 stories of war heroes, and the upcoming film includes 3 to 4 of them. Nidhi added, "And he had said that these are some stories of our martyrs, of our soldiers, which have to be conveyed to the people. And he had entrusted that responsibility to me and my father."The producer called losing the army officer in a helicopter crash an "unfortunate" incident. She stated that 'Border 2' is not just her and JP Dutta's dream but also "the dream of the late General Bipin Rawat ji."
Nidhi Dutta then added that one and a half years after his passing, she started working on three to four of the stories and included them in the 'Border 2' script.
