In a powerful rebuke, the Supreme Court pulled up the Centre for challenging its order permitting a 15-year-old rape survivor to terminate her pregnancy beyond 30 weeks. The court emphasised that reproductive autonomy is a fundamental right and said the government cannot override a survivor’s choice. With strong remarks from the bench, including “respect citizens’ choice” and “let us not choose for people capable of choosing,” the case raises critical questions about law, rights, and state intervention.
