As assembly elections are now the latter phases, with only Manipur and some parts of UP still left to vote. While campaigning continues for these regions, talks are already on for likely scenarios post-results in states that have already voted. Stay with TOI for all updates.

UP elections: 60% turnout in UP 4th phase lower than in 2017

Four out of nine districts in UP’s Avadh, Terai and Bundelkhand regions on Wednesday reported a higher voter turnout than in 2017, including a decade high of 61% in Lucknow, but the overall figure of just over 60% in the 59 seats that went to polls in Round 4 fell short of the 62% clocked five years ago.

Uttar Pradesh: Re-poll in Karhal booth shows increase in turnout
Re-polling at the Jaswantpur booth in Mainpuri district’s Karhal on Wednesday saw a marginal increase in the voter turnout as compared to Sunday, when the constituency went to the polls in the third phase of assembly elections. There was an increase by 3.36% (75.86%) in the turnout at the booth on Wednesday, as it had earlier recorded a turnout of 72.50 %. The re-election was conducted following complaints of "bogus voting and booth capturing" made by BJP candidate and Union Minister SP Singh Baghel. Baghel is up against SP chief Akhilesh Yadav from this high profile seat in the state assembly elections. Read full story
