Mumbai cops scanning places of worship in Ujjain, Khandwa to trace shooter

State funeral was accorded to former minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique, who was shot dead outside his son's office in Mumbai's Bandra on Saturday.

Siddique, who served as the minister of state for various departments between 2004 and 2008, also held the position of President of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA). He was shot by unidentified attackers and sustained two gunshot wounds to his chest before being rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Dr Jalil Parkar, a physician at the hospital, stated that Siddique arrived in critical condition, with unrecordable pulse and blood pressure, and the ECG showed a flat line. He was declared dead at 11:27 PM.

Mumbai police have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder. Additional CP Paramjit Singh Dahiya reported that the incident occurred around 9.30pm in Nirmal Nagar, and a 9mm pistol used in the crime has been recovered.

Delhi Police will dispatch a special investigation team to Mumbai to assist in the investigation. The Mumbai Police are also exploring possible connections to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, given Siddique's close ties to actor Salman Khan, who has previously been targeted by the gang.

"He went to Pune to work in a scrapyard. I knew only this.. I was not aware of what he was doing in Mumbai. He had come home in Holi, and after that he did not come. He was not even taking to me on calls so I cannot say anything about the incident. He is around 18 to 19 years. He had just sent Rs 3,000 to me when my daughter was sick," said 23-year-old Gurmail Singh's mother.

"Two months ago, he had gone to work in a scrapyard in Pune. He has contacted me only once since he had left. The police had come and they had informed me about him," mother of Dharamraj Kashyap said.
Senior Nationalist Congress party leader Baba Siddique passed away after being shot multiple times by unidentified assailants on Saturday, according to Mumbai police. The incident took place near the office of his son, Zeeshan Siddiqui, in Bandra East. Baba Siddique sustained critical injuries to his chest and abdomen and was quickly transported to Lilavati Hospital for treatment, where he later succumbed to his wounds.

Authorities report that three assailants were involved in the attack, and the investigation is ongoing to determine the motive and identify those responsible. So far, two suspects have been arrested; chief minister Eknath Shinde confirmed that one is from Uttar Pradesh and the other from Haryana, while the third remains at large. "I have instructed the police that no one in Mumbai should take the law into their own hands, and that the underworld should not rear its head," Shinde stated.

Baba Siddique was a two-time BMC corporator and won the Bandra West assembly constituency in 1999 on a Congress ticket, retaining his seat in 2004 and 2009. However, he lost to BJP's Ashish Shelar in 2014 and did not contest in the 2019 elections. Earlier this year, he joined the NCP and served as Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies from 2004 to 2008.
