Chhatna election results 2026: BJP’s Satyanarayan Mukhopadhyay wins Chhatna by 47,174 votes, defeats TMC’s Swapan Kumar Mondal

In the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, Satyanarayan Mukhopadhyay of the Bharatiya Janata Party secured a decisive and comfortable victory in Chhatna (Assembly Constituency 248), defeating Trinamool Congress candidate Swapan Kumar Mondal by a margin of 47,174 votes.Mukhopadhyay polled 1,25,972 votes after all 23 rounds of counting, while Mondal secured 78,798 votesChhatna (GEN), Assembly Constituency No. 249, lies in Bankura district in South Bengal, within the transition zone between the district's laterite heartland and the adjoining plains. Covering Chhatna community development block and its environs, the constituency has 232,000+ electors from OBC communities (Kurmi-Mahato, Tili), SC groups, and minority tribal populations, primarily engaged in rainfed paddy agriculture, sericulture, and daily labour. Voter concerns centre on irrigation and drinking water, rural road connectivity, agricultural input pricing, youth employment, healthcare access, and delivery of central and state welfare schemes.The sericulture belt's declining returns have added to agrarian anxiety. Once a solid Left Front constituency, Chhatna transitioned through TMC toward BJP by 2021 amid strong rural Hindu consolidation. Turnout at 83.0per cent with bipolar TMC-BJP contest under Bishnupur Lok Sabha. In 2021, BJP's Satyanarayan Mukhopadhyay defeated TMC by 7,164 votes (~3.7per cent of 193,322 total votes)—a clear though not overwhelming margin.
