Coronavirus live updates: Vaccine availability to see exponential rise in coming months, says Harsh Vardhan
The daily rise in coronavirus cases in India remained below 3 lakh for the fifth consecutive day with 2.59 lakh new cases recorded in a single day, according to health ministry's updated data on Friday. Detecting the presence of the coronavirus requires amplifying the number of the viral biomarkers, such as the copies of its genetic material. This can be done either using a technique called the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), or amplifying the binding signal for a target biomarker. The new rapid and sensitive test, described in the Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology B, uses the second method but in a sophisticated way.

Nearly two crore COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with states and union territories while around 26 lakh are in the pipeline and will be received by them within the next three days, the Union health ministry said on Thursday. As part of the nationwide vaccination drive, the government has been supporting the states and UTs by providing them COVID-19 vaccines free of cost.
