Cal HC asks Centre, Bengal govt to reply on allegations of ill-prepared lockdown easing
The Calcutta High Court has directed the Centre and the West Bengal government to file separate reports on allegations that the lockdown was being eased without taking necessary steps to curb the spread of coronavirus. The PIL, moved by lawyer Anindya Sundar Das, also said that proper surveillance was not being maintained in various districts of West Bengal with regard to quarantine of migrant labourers.

The United States has evidence China is trying to slow down or sabotage the development of a COVID-19 vaccine by Western countries, Republican senator Rick Scott said on Sunday. Malaysia to lift more lockdown restrictions, reports AP.
Malaysians will be allowed to travel interstate, get their hair cut at salons and visit street markets beginning Wednesday, when more coronavirus lockdown restrictions are lifted. Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said Sunday that more economic sectors will reopen, schools and religious activities will gradually resume, and people can travel for domestic holidays after nearly three months of lockdown.

"A decision is yet to be taken on opening temples, mosques, churches and other religious establishments for people. There has been no decision so far on allowing people to gather at such places, Maharashtra's law and judiciary department secretary Rajendra Bhagwat said. Authorities of some prominent temples in Maharashtra also said they have not received any official communication on allowing shrines to be opened for devotees.

Malaysia to lift most coronavirus curbs with outbreak 'under control'
Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced in a televised address on Sunday the novel coranvirus outbreak was under control and Malaysia would begin a new recovery phase until Aug. 31. Malaysia had gradually allowed businesses to reopen with social distancing guidelines over the past month, after shutting all non-essential businesses and schools, banning public gatherings and restricting travel on March 18.

Former Indian Medical Association (IMA) chief Dr KK Aggarwal has moved the Delhi High Court challenging the Delhi government's decision of excluding "asymptomatic patients or pre-symptomatic patients" from COVID-19 testing. The Division Bench of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Subramonium Prasad on Monday will hear the petition. He contended that since COVID-19 is a notifiable disease it is mandatory for all citizens to get themselves tested for the disease whether the patient is symptomatic or asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic.

Covid-19 cases in Pakistan inching closer to 100,000-mark
A record 4,960 fresh coronavirus cases were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 98,943, according to the Ministry of National Health Services. With 67 more fatalities due to COVID-19, the death toll jumped to 2,002 in the country. The Health Ministry said that on the positive side, at least 33,465 patients have fully recovered so far.

There are reports in certain section of media that growth of direct taxes collection for 2019-20 has fallen drastically & buoyancy of direct tax collection as compared to GDP growth has reached negative.These reports don't portray the correct picture. It's a fact that net direct tax collection for 2019-20 was less than net direct tax collection for 2018-19. But this fall in collection of direct taxes is on expected lines & is temporary in nature due to historic tax reforms undertaken & much higher refunds issued during 2019-20
