Delhi Election Results 2025 Live Updates: ECI completes Delhi assembly poll process, submits results to LG

Election Results 2025: The BJP is on track to form a government in Delhi for the first time in over 26 years, with data from the Election Commission indicating the party is leading in 47 out of the 70 assembly seats, while AAP is ahead in 23.

Delhi's political landscape witnessed a dramatic showdown on February 5 as millions of residents headed to polling stations to decide the fate of their city's government.

The electoral battle, whose results are set to be unveiled today, has shaped up to be one of the most intensely contested, with the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) fighting to retain power against a resurgent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while the Congress party seeks to break its decade-long losing streak in the capital.

The Election Commission reported a moderate turnout of 60.42 percent across Delhi's 70 constituencies, with interesting geographical variations. North East Delhi emerged as the most politically active district, recording a robust 66.25 percent voter participation, while South East Delhi showed relatively lesser enthusiasm with 56.16 per cent turnout.

The election features several heavyweight candidates across key constituencies, including AAP's Arvind Kejriwal and BJP's Parvesh Verma battling it out in New Delhi, while constituencies like Kalkaji witness a three-way contest between AAP's Atishi, BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri, and Congress's Alka Lamba. Other prominent faces include AAP's Manish Sisodia in Jangpura and BJP's Kapil Mishra in Karawal Nagar.

Election Result 2025: ‘Kejriwal treated Delhi like his fiefdom’, says JD(U) Leader Lalan Singh on AAP’s Defeat
Union minister and JD(U) leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan on Saturday said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was being punished for 11 years of "misrule" in Delhi. He accused Arvind Kejriwal of ignoring basic governance and treating the national capital as his personal stronghold.

"The people of Delhi were fed up with AAP’s tall claims and constant clashes with the Centre. They lacked even basic necessities like clean drinking water," Lalan told reporters.

He also alleged that Kejriwal was unfair to migrants from Bihar, particularly during the COVID-19 crisis. "During the pandemic, AAP forced migrants to flee. But when they returned home, the Bihar government supported them without hesitation," he added.

Mocking Kejriwal’s past remarks about migrants seeking free medical treatment in Delhi, Lalan said, "He spoke as if Delhi was his fiefdom, not the national capital."

The BJP is set to form the government in Delhi after 27 years, with the latest Election Commission trends showing the party leading in 48 seats, while AAP trails with 22.

Election Results 2025 live: ‘Even Ravan’s arrogance did not last’, says Swati Maliwal targets Kejriwal after AAP’s Delhi defeat
Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal took a sharp dig at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its chief Arvind Kejriwal following their electoral debacle in the Delhi assembly polls. Sharing an image of Draupadi’s cheer haran from the Mahabharat, Maliwal linked AAP’s loss to Kejriwal’s alleged arrogance.

"Even Ravan’s arrogance did not last," she wrote in another post on X, in a clear swipe at the former Delhi CM.

Maliwal’s reference to Draupadi’s disrobing alludes to her allegations last year that she was assaulted inside Kejriwal’s residence by one of his close aides. The fallout led to her estrangement from AAP.

Her remarks came as BJP surged ahead in the Delhi assembly elections, positioning itself to form the government in the capital after 27 years. Even Kejriwal himself was trailing in the New Delhi constituency, a stunning setback for the two-time chief minister.

As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) inches closer to forming the government in Delhi after 27 years, Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared that the "rule of lies" has come to an end, marking the start of a new era of trust and development.

In a post on X, Shah wrote, “Delhi ke Dil mein Modi (Modi in the heart of Delhi),” crediting the people of Delhi for dismantling what he called the "Sheesh Mahal" of corruption and deceit.

“Delhi has taught a lesson to those who break promises, setting an example for the entire nation. This victory is a testament to the faith in Modi ji’s vision,” he said, promising that the BJP would deliver on all its commitments.

Shah also took a swipe at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), stating that the electorate had rejected “false promises, dirty Yamuna water, broken roads, and unchecked liquor shops.” He thanked BJP workers and leaders, including JP Nadda and Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva, for their efforts in securing this mandate.

BJP Gains Ground, AAP Struggles
According to the Election Commission, BJP leads in 48 seats, while AAP trails with 22. The Congress has failed to open its account for the third consecutive term.

Election Results 2025: ‘Beginning of the end for AAP’, says BJP’s Hitesh Jain on Delhi Election Results
BJP Mumbai Vice President Hitesh Jain has declared that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is witnessing the start of its downfall following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s decisive victory in the Delhi Assembly elections. Calling it a major setback for Arvind Kejriwal’s party, Jain said the results mark a new political chapter for the capital.

Speaking to IANS, Jain credited the BJP’s win to a campaign focused on real issues. “Our top leadership ran an effective campaign addressing people's concerns, and the results reflect a shift towards a new era in Delhi’s governance,” he stated.

Sharpening his attack on the AAP, Jain claimed that Kejriwal’s government had failed to deliver on its promises over the past decade. “For ten years, the AAP has indulged in false promises without real change. Once credibility is lost, it is extremely difficult to regain,” he said.

He further accused Kejriwal of misleading voters. “Deception has a shelf life—eventually, people see through it. The people of Delhi have given him a befitting reply,” Jain added.

Jain also pointed to corruption allegations against the AAP, citing the liquor policy case and the ‘Sheesh Mahal’ controversy. “The party that claimed to stand against corruption is now deeply entangled in scams. When a government neither performs nor takes responsibility, public trust crumbles,” he remarked.

Hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Jain said voters had reaffirmed their trust in his vision. He also mocked the Congress, calling its performance one of the worst in recent memory. “They contested half-heartedly, knowing they stood no chance,” he said.

Jain concluded by stating, “This is the beginning of the end for the Aam Aadmi Party.”

Election Result 2025: 'I have not checked yet', says Priyanka Gandhi on Delhi election results
The Congress party appears headed for another electoral debacle in Delhi, with counting trends indicating a complete shutout. According to the Election Commission of India, the BJP is leading in 41 seats, while the AAP has secured leads in 29. The Congress, however, has failed to make any impact, still struggling to secure a single seat.

When asked about the party’s dismal performance, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi responded, "I don't know, I haven't checked the results yet."

Exit polls had already predicted a grim outcome, with two out of six forecasting zero seats for the Congress. If these trends hold, the party will once again be wiped out in the national capital, further cementing its declining influence with no clear revival strategy in sight.

Election Result 2025: Kejriwal’s old ‘Another Birth’ remark backfires as BJP ousts AAP in Delhi
In a major political upset, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suffered a devastating defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections, with party chief Arvind Kejriwal losing his stronghold in the New Delhi constituency. Adding to the embarrassment, a 2023 video of Kejriwal's bold assertion that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would need "another birth" to defeat AAP in Delhi has resurfaced and gone viral.

Kejriwal had made the remark while dismissing the BJP’s chances of reclaiming power in the capital. However, as the election results unfolded, the BJP secured a commanding victory, winning 47 out of 70 seats, while AAP trailed far behind with just 22.

The BJP's resurgence in Delhi, after 26 years out of power, marks a significant blow to Kejriwal's leadership. His defeat in New Delhi to BJP's Parvesh Verma further underscored the party's declining influence. Meanwhile, former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia also lost in Jangpura, while Atishi, another key AAP leader, faced a tough fight in Kalkaji.

The viral video has fueled criticism against Kejriwal, with BJP leaders and social media users mocking his overconfidence. Many see the election outcome as a direct rejection of AAP’s governance and policies, particularly its handling of the controversial Delhi liquor policy.

As the BJP celebrates its victory, AAP faces an uncertain future, with its leadership under scrutiny and its political stronghold in the capital shattered.

Election Results 2025 Live: BJP set to reclaim Delhi after 26 years as Anna Hazare criticizes AAP over liquor policy
As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appeared poised to secure power in Delhi after more than 26 years, activist Anna Hazare took a swipe at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), attributing its downfall to its liquor policy and prioritization of money over public service.

The AAP, which emerged from Hazare’s 2011 anti-corruption movement, trailed behind the BJP as votes were counted for the 70-member Delhi assembly. Trends from the Election Commission website showed the BJP leading in 48 seats, while the AAP lagged with 22.

Manish Sisodia, a senior AAP leader and former deputy chief minister, conceded defeat from Jangpura, while Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal faced a possible loss from his New Delhi constituency.

Speaking to reporters in his Ralegan Siddhi village, Hazare remarked, "With the liquor policy issue came the money, and they drowned in it. The AAP’s image was tarnished. People saw Kejriwal talking about clean character and then about liquor."

Hazare, who distanced himself from Kejriwal when the latter formed the AAP in 2012, criticized the party for failing to uphold selfless service. "Money took the front seat, which dented AAP’s image, leading to its defeat," he said.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) have alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy for 2021-22, claiming undue favors were granted to license holders. The policy, implemented in November 2021, was scrapped in September 2022 amid corruption allegations.

Hazare reiterated his long-standing stance against political ambitions, stating, "I have been saying from the beginning that a candidate’s character should be clean and spotless. They should know the virtues of sacrifice and have the capacity to tolerate insults. These qualities win people’s trust. I kept saying this, but they did not understand."

Congress, which snapped its ties with AAP in the assembly elections, led a very aggressive campaign in Delhi with former party chief Rahul Gandhi leading the charge against Arvind Kejriwal. However, the party failed to impress the voters of Delhi and could not win any seat. The only small consolation for the party is perhaps the nearly 2% increase in its vote share - which had gone down to under 5% in the 2020 assembly elections.

Election results live: BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri still leading in Kalkaji constituency
"I express gratitude to Kalkaji residents. This advantage belongs to the people of Kalkaji. Throughout the past decade, Kalkaji residents experienced severe distress due to the absence of developmental initiatives in the area," Bidhuri told reporters.

During his commentary on the initial advantage, Bidhuri criticised former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, stating that he deceived the public with unfulfilled commitments and free provisions.

"Kejriwal secured victories twice through distributing free provisions and unfulfilled promises. The past decade revealed his true nature. Should Kalkaji residents desire progress, they will dismiss Atishi. This advantage reflects the goodwill of Kalkaji residents. Kejriwal has not accomplished anything in Delhi over ten years. I believe aapda will depart and BJP will assume leadership...Our aim is public service, not positions like CM," Bidhuri declared.

Avadh Ojha, a prominent civil services examination coach and recent addition to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), is currently behind in the vote count for the Patparganj constituency in the 2025 Delhi assembly election.

The party nominated him to replace veteran AAP leader Manish Sisodia, who had previously secured victories in this constituency in 2013, 2015, and 2020 but is now contesting from Jungpura.

BJP's Ravinder Negi leads the race, with Ojha in second position, whilst Congress candidate Anil Chaudhary occupies the third spot.

Previously, Patparganj was regarded as an AAP bastion, particularly due to its connection with Delhi's educational developments, as highlighted by Manish Sisodia. However, initial results suggest a challenging contest for the governing party.

The AAP, which achieved remarkable success with 67 seats in 2015 and 62 in 2020, is experiencing difficulties in this election. The Congress party, despite drawing blanks in the previous two elections, shows signs of revival by leading in at least one constituency.
Election Results 2025 Live: As the Delhi government navigates through multiple litigations with the Lieutenant Governor (LG), it finds itself at a crossroads in the Supreme Court, with key petitions challenging the Centre’s 2023 law that grants the LG sweeping powers in controlling services in the national capital. These ongoing cases, particularly the contentious GNCTD Act, 2023, could reshape the governance landscape in Delhi, especially with the BJP poised to form the next government.

The legal battle comes in the wake of the Centre’s decision to centralize control over administrative services, empowering the LG with authority over crucial decisions. A significant petition challenges the Centre's law that establishes the pre-eminence of the LG in Delhi's administrative affairs, including the authority to appoint government lawyers. This landmark case could set a precedent for how governance is structured in Delhi moving forward.

Key legal struggles

Among the Delhi government’s active petitions, one pertains to the appointment of the chairperson of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC). The Delhi government has also filed cases challenging the LG’s interference with schemes like sending teachers abroad for training and the reactivation of the Farishte scheme, which provides emergency services.

Perhaps most striking is the case against the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), in which the LG’s role is under scrutiny due to illegal tree felling in the Delhi Ridge area. The cases, which reflect the growing tension between the elected AAP government and the appointed LG, have taken on heightened significance amid the larger constitutional dispute.

A new chapter with BJP in power?

As the BJP is set to take control in Delhi, the outcome of these cases in the Supreme Court will be pivotal. The shifting political landscape raises questions about how these ongoing legal battles will unfold. Will the BJP-led government maintain the same stance as the outgoing AAP administration in challenging the LG’s influence, or will they seek a resolution?

The legal drama dates back to May 2023 when the Centre introduced the Delhi Services Bill, which places administrative control over services under the LG’s purview. The bill, cleared by Parliament and signed into law by President Droupadi Murmu, followed a tumultuous period marked by disputes between the Delhi government and the Centre.

Supreme Court’s role and future implications

The Supreme Court had previously referred a crucial petition regarding the Centre's May 2023 ordinance to a five-judge bench, marking a turning point in the long-standing power struggle. The ordinance removed the Delhi government’s control over services and created an authority for posting and transferring Group-A officers in Delhi, among other territories. The new law places the LG in a dominant position, with decisions made by a majority vote within a newly formed authority, and in cases of disagreement, the LG's decision is final.

The AAP government has fiercely opposed the law, calling it a "deception" and a violation of the principle of collective responsibility. They argue that the law undermines the autonomy of an elected government, a stance supported by the Supreme Court in a prior ruling which had emphasized the need for elected officials to have control over bureaucrats.

As these legal proceedings continue, all eyes will be on the Supreme Court's verdict, which could either reinforce the balance of power between Delhi’s elected leaders and the appointed LG, or further tilt the scales in favor of centralized control. What happens next could dramatically alter the governance structure in India’s capital and provide a template for other states with similar power struggles.
