Delhi Elections 2025 Live Updates: BJP releases 4th list of candidates

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has allotted two seats to its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) allies, Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) and Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), for the upcoming Delhi assembly polls on February 5.
While JD(U) will contest from the Burari seat, LJP will fight the poll from the Deoli assembly seat.

The BJP on Thursday released its fourth list of nine candidates for the polls, thus declaring 68 of the 70 names, leaving two seats for its allies.

While JD(U) has announced Shailendra Kumar as its candidate from Burari, the LJP (RV) is likely to field a candidate from Deoli.

Both the JD(U) and LJP (Ram Vilas), with a stronghold in Bihar that goes to polls this year, are key partners in the BJP-NDA.

The BJP also named nine more candidates for the elections to the 70-member assembly, fielding Shikha Rai and Anil Vashishth from Greater Kailash and Babarpur, respectively.

The Congress had already declared 68 candidates out of Delhi's 70 assembly seats. The ruling AAP has already declared its candidates for all 70 seats.

The last date for filing nominations is January 17. The date for scrutiny of nominations is January 18. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 20.

The Congress, which was in power for 15 consecutive years in Delhi, has suffered setbacks in the last two assembly elections and has failed to win any seat. In contrast, the AAP dominated the 2020 assembly elections by winning 62 out of 70 seats while the BJP got only eight seats.

Earlier, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari attacked ruling AAP on the Yamuna cleaning issue.

"... AAP does the work of buying & selling; I pray to the people of Delhi to send such parties off... Arvind Kejriwal does not have any right to ask for votes, as he did not keep his word of cleaning Yamuna," the BJP leader said.

Taking a dig at AAP national convenor, Chairperson of Delhi State Haj Committee and BJP leader, Kausar Jahan said, "As per the affidavit Arvind Kejriwal submitted to the Election Commission, his and his wife's collective net worth is Rs 4 crore 36 lakh. I want to ask Arvind Kejriwal- When will the 'Aam Aadmis' of Delhi become such a 'Crorepati Aam Aadmi?' I have full faith that the BJP will form their government in Delhi."

Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said, "People won't believe their lies...we have assured and will announce in our election manifesto as well about the schemes...if the state government doesn't cooperate, then things won't move forward. In the last 10 years, the Delhi government hasn't let central government schemes be implemented in Delhi...they are doing vote bank politics. All the schemes that have been stuck, we will resume everything once we come to power...the illegal colonies, under the PM-UDAY Yojana, being given ownership...all colonies will be approved, some relaxation of norms will be done...we will do all these works once we come to power...

Delhi Congress President and Congress candidate from Badli Assembly constituency Devendra Yadav on Thursday targeted the AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal over the now scrapped Delhi Excise Policy.
Referring to the "leaked CAG report" on social media, Yadav stated that the report clearly shows that a scam of Rs 2000 crores has taken place, adding that all the evidence is going against him.

Speaking to ANI, Yadav said, "Due to the excise policy, Kejriwal was continuously in jail. These days he is out on bail. We have seen a leaked CAG report on social media which clearly shows that a scam of Rs 2000 crores has taken place. Who will be responsible? All the evidence is going against him, this is going to be a big problem for Kejriwal and his government..."

Earlier, BJP MP Sambit Patra claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party wants to bring back the same excise policy due to which there was a scam worth crores of rupees, cartelisation and black marketing.

Speaking to ANI, Patra demanded a clarification from AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal.

"In an interview, Delhi CM Atishi said that if they (AAP) come to power in Delhi, then the new Excise Policy will be implemented again. The excise policy due to which there was a scam worth crores of rupee, cartelisation and black marketing, AAP wants to bring back the same policy. The policy was not even passed by the cabinet and the approval of the LG sahab was also not taken. Because of the same liquor policy, today AAP is standing exposed in front of the public. Arvind Kejriwal should give a clarification on this," the BJP MP said.

Meanwhile, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), on Wednesday authorized the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to initiate prosecution against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) for their alleged involvement in money laundering linked to the liquor scam case.

The sanction order against these Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders was received earlier this month in a fresh development to the case pertaining to the alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy for 2021-22.

The move comes as the two leaders are out on bail in the case as the Supreme Court in September last year ordered Arvind Kejriwal to be released on regular bail as well as Manish Sisodia a month ago in August in cases linked to the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam.

The development is significant as a special PMLA court in Delhi had delayed the framing of charges against Arvind Kejriwal after he challenged the trial court's decision to take cognizance of the chargesheet in the absence of specific sanctions for prosecution under PMLA.

Reacting to this, Kejriwal said that this is how they (BJP) are contesting the Delhi Assembly Polls.

On being asked by the reporters outside the party office, Kejriwal said, "Woh uss tarah see chunav lad rahe hain, hum is tarah see chunav lad rahe hain."

Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit on Wednesday announced that he will file his nomination for the New Delhi Assembly seat on January 16 with the blessings of his mother and the support of Delhi's residents.
Dikshit, while emphasising his commitment to a brighter future for the national capital urged support from the public to make New Delhi "a symbol of Sheila Dikshit's dreams" once again.

Taking to his official handle on X, Sandeep Dikshit posted, "With the blessings of my mother and the love and support of the people of Delhi, tomorrow I will file my nomination from the New Delhi Assembly seat. I will start my journey from the old Congress office at 24 Akbar Road at 10:30 am. From there I will go to Jamnagar House and formally submit my nomination papers."

"I will carry with me the hopes and dreams of every Delhiite who believes in a brighter and better future for Delhi. On this occasion, the support and blessings of all of you are invaluable to me.Let us once again make New Delhi the capital of Sheila Dikshit's dreams," his post read.

Dikshit is in the electoral fray against BJP candidate Parvesh Verma and AAP's Arvind Kejriwal.

Earlier in the day, Aam Aadmi Party Chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on also filed his nomination from the New Delhi seat for the Delhi Assembly Polls, scheduled on February 5.

Delhi Congress President and Congress candidate from Badli Assembly constituency Devendra Yadav criticised AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday regarding the withdrawn Delhi Excise Policy. Yadav referenced a "leaked CAG report" circulating on social media, asserting that it reveals a Rs 2000 crores financial irregularity, with mounting evidence against the AAP leader.

In his statement to ANI, Yadav said, "Due to the excise policy, Kejriwal was continuously in jail. These days he is out on bail. We have seen a leaked CAG report on social media which clearly shows that a scam of Rs 2000 crores has taken place. Who will be responsible? All the evidence is going against him, this is going to be a big problem for Kejriwal and his government..."
Previously, BJP representative Sambit Patra alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party intends to reintroduce the same excise policy that resulted in substantial financial misconduct, market manipulation, and illicit trading.

During his interaction with ANI, Patra sought answers from the AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal.

The Congress made several promises on Thursday, including providing gas cylinders at Rs 500, free ration kits and 300 units of complimentary electricity to all residents upon gaining power. This marks their fourth guarantee announcement.

During a press briefing, Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy presented these guarantees whilst encouraging Delhi's electorate to support Congress in the forthcoming elections, pledging to fulfil five crucial promises. He criticised both Modi and Kejriwal administrations for their perceived inaction in enhancing Delhi's living standards despite their three terms in office.

"There is no difference between Modi and Kejriwal, their names are different but their actions are the same - lying. Modi has been the PM three times, Kejriwal has been the CM three times, but what have they done for Delhi? Today, Delhi is not suitable for living. I request the people of Delhi in this election to make Congress win, we will implement the five guarantees," he said.

On January 12, the party introduced its third guarantee programme, 'Yuva Udaan Yojana', pledging monthly support of Rs 8,500 to educated unemployed youth in Delhi for a year if victorious in the upcoming Assembly elections.

On January 8, the party revealed its second guarantee scheme, 'Jeevan Raksha Yojana', offering health coverage worth Rs 25 lakh to Delhiites.

On January 6, Congress launched its initial guarantee programme for Delhi residents, the "Pyari Didi" scheme, promising Rs 2,500 to women.

BJP's Rajouri Garden Assembly Constituency candidate Manjinder Singh Sirsa criticised AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday, stating that he has deteriorated Delhi's cleanliness standards.
"I am happy that I am getting huge support from the people of Rajouri Garden. People in Delhi have made up their minds. They are fed up with Arvind Kejriwal's excuses, fed up with his corruption," Sirsa said whilst speaking to ANI.

In the constituency, Sirsa faces competition from AAP's Dhanwati Chandela and Congress' Dharampal Chandela in a three-way contest.

Additionally, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj criticised the Delhi AAP government, highlighting public dissatisfaction with unfulfilled promises.

"I wish all the best to elder brother Harish Khurana who is filing his nomination today. Delhi is tired of false promises. The people of Delhi want change, they want a BJP government. They don't want excuses for AAP. I appeal to the people to press the lotus button on February 5," Bansuri Swaraj said in her statement to ANI.

On Thursday, AAP candidate and Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj visited Kalkaji Temple to offer prayers before submitting his nomination for the Delhi Elections 2025 from Greater Kailash constituency.

In his interaction with ANI, Bharadwaj explained that Kalka Maa is their village's 'Isht' deity, and they traditionally seek her blessings before commencing significant endeavours.

"Kalka Maa is the 'Isht' goddess of our village and we take blessings of Maa before doing any big work. Today I will file my nomination. May Kalka Maa keep blessing us and the people of Delhi," Bharadwaj said.

Additionally, Bharadwaj visited the Hanuman temple in Connaught Place for blessings.

He shared on X platform, "Before filing his nomination, visited the ancient Hanuman temple in Connaught Place and took blessings of Lord Bajrangbali. Jai Hanuman."

Earlier in the day, Bharadwaj criticised BJP's Parvesh Verma regarding voter outreach, stating that BJP's actions reflect their apprehension of Kejriwal.

"Due to fear of Kejriwal, BJP is making people wear shoes, distributing sarees and giving money. If only we could share love, we wouldn't have to ask for votes," Bharadwaj posted on X.

For the Greater Kailash seat, AAP's Saurabh Bhardwaj faces Congress candidate Garvit Singhvi, while BJP has not yet announced their contestant.

The Delhi assembly election is scheduled for February 5, with vote counting set for February 8.

Amid growing concerns over the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in political campaigning, the Election Commission issued an advisory on Thursday urging transparency and accountability. Political parties are now required to label AI-generated or altered content, such as images, videos, and audio, with terms like "AI-Generated" or "Digitally Enhanced."

Additionally, disclaimers must accompany any campaign materials featuring synthetic content. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar previously raised concerns about AI's role in spreading misinformation and its potential to undermine electoral trust.

In 2022, Arvind Kejriwal announced that only photos of Dr. BR Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh would be displayed in Delhi government offices. He later faced criticism when a photo of himself was placed between the two. Last year, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi wore blue attire to Parliament to counter Amit Shah’s comments on Ambedkar.

Dalit voters, making up 17% of Delhi’s electorate, remain a key political force. Despite their importance, many, including Dinesh Kumar from Valmiki Sadan, feel that the AAP has not addressed their economic concerns, such as youth unemployment.

While some express dissatisfaction, others praise the government’s initiatives, like free bus services and electricity. Political scientists suggest that this community could impact the 2025 elections, with AAP facing growing competition from Congress and BJP.

On Wednesday, Samajwadi Party (SP) and Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the INDIA bloc backed Arvind Kejriwal's AAP in Delhi, calling it the "best bet" against the BJP. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav emphasised AAP's strong performance in Delhi, positioning it as the clear choice over Congress. TMC's Abhishek Banerjee echoed this view, urging support for AAP to prevent a BJP win. Both parties remain committed to regional allies, with TMC supporting Congress in its strongholds and SP focusing on challenging BJP in Uttar Pradesh.

Manish Sisodia, the former deputy chief minister of Delhi and Aam Aadmi Party legislator, submitted his nomination papers on Thursday for the upcoming Assembly elections. Prior to filing his papers, he engaged with voters and visited the Kalka deity's temple. Upon winning, he would serve as the representative for the Jangpura constituency in the Delhi Assembly.

He shared on X: "Today I am going to file my nomination papers from Jangpura Assembly constituency. Yesterday, I went among the brothers and sisters of the area and took their love and blessings. This morning I sat at the feet of Kalka Mai and prayed."

During his temple visit, Sisodia sought the deity's guidance for his future service role.

He further posted on X: "This is my prayer at the feet of Kalka Mai that she should pave my way according to the role that Mother deems appropriate in serving the brothers and sisters of Delhi."

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen's Delhi candidate Tahir Hussain was escorted by Delhi Police to the District Magistrate's office in Nandnagri on January 16 to submit his nomination papers for the forthcoming Delhi elections. The Karkardooma Court granted him custody parole for this purpose.

The AIMIM's Delhi General Secretary, Haji Mehardeen Rangrez, expressed confidence about their electoral prospects in Mustafabad constituency.

"Today, nomination papers will be filed. After this, we will go to the court seeking interim bail for Tahir Hussain to campaign for elections. He is going to win from Mustafabad," he said.

Judge Sameer Bajpai, the Additional Sessions Judge, authorised Hussain's custody parole. The court's directive includes taking him to the SDM Karawal Nagar office on January 16 for nomination filing, with a contingency arrangement for January 17 should the process remain incomplete.

The upcoming waste-to-energy facility at Bawana has become a significant electoral issue before the Delhi Assembly polls, with neighbouring communities expressing serious concerns about environmental impact and health risks. Some residents have even threatened to abstain from voting if the project continues. The facility is set to be constructed across 15 acres adjacent to the Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facility for hazardous waste in DSIDC Sector 5.

In discussions with PTI, inhabitants from more than 15 surrounding villages have expressed worries about deforestation, deteriorating air and water quality, and potential health complications, including breathing problems and disorders affecting the nervous system.

The residents have highlighted concerns about various harmful emissions from the waste-to-energy (WTE) facility, including dioxins, furans, particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), and toxic metals such as mercury and lead, which they believe will deteriorate air quality and pose serious health risks.

"The toxic emissions from this plant will put our lives at risk. We're already struggling with pollution from nearby factories and other WTE plants here, which will make it unbearable," Rajpal Saini, a resident of Sanoth village that falls under Narela assembly constituency, told PTI.

Despite official assurances about implementing comprehensive pollution control measures at the proposed WTE facility, local residents have cited examples from existing WTE plants in the vicinity, pointing out problems with ash disposal and dangerous levels of pollutants affecting nearby residential areas.

Sushant Mishra, representing Congress from Rithala assembly constituency, submitted his nomination papers on Wednesday. He faces competition from the sitting AAP legislator Mohinder Goyal and BJP's Kulwant Rana.

Congress MP and Opposition Leader in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, conducted an election campaign in Rithala for the forthcoming Delhi Assembly polls on January 14.

During his visit, he spent time with Rithala residents and participated in the Makar Sankranti celebrations by sharing traditional "dahi-chura" with them.

On social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi criticised Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. He posted a video highlighting alleged deficiencies in Delhi's infrastructure and public services, stating, "This is Kejriwal ji's 'shining' Delhi - the so-called Paris of India!"

This sharp criticism emerges as electoral activities intensify, with political figures increasing their campaign efforts before the state elections.

The Rithala Assembly constituency, situated in North West Delhi district, is amongst the 70 Delhi assembly seats. According to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi, this constituency encompasses various parts of Rohini, Rithala village, Budh Vihar and Vijay Vihar.

In a related development, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs granted authorisation to the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday to commence prosecution proceedings against former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act regarding their alleged involvement in the liquor policy case.

The authorisation to prosecute these AAP leaders was received in early February, marking a significant advancement in the investigation concerning alleged irregularities in Delhi's discontinued liquor policy of 2021-22.

Congress released its fourth list of candidates for Delhi assembly elections on Wednesday night, naming contenders for five constituencies.

Surender Kumar was nominated for the Bawana seat (reserved for scheduled caste), whilst Rahul Dhanak received the nomination for Karol Bagh (reserved for SC).

The remaining three candidates announced were Sumesh Gupta for Rohini, Virender Bhiduri for Tughlakabad and Arjun Bhadana for Badarpur.

With these five nominations, Congress has now announced candidates for 68 out of Delhi's 70 assembly constituencies.

Previously, on February 5, Congress had issued its third list comprising 16 candidates for the Delhi assembly polls.

Recent Congress joinee and former AAP MLA Dharam Pal Lakda received the Mundka ticket, whilst former Union Minister Krishna Tirath was selected for Patel Nagar.

The party nominated Rajesh Gupta for Kirari, Kunwar Karan Singh for Model Town, Prem Sharma for Hari Nagar, Harbani Kaur for Janakpuri, Jitender Solanki for Vikaspuri, Sushma Yadav for Najafgarh, Mange Ram for Palam, and Vishesh Tokas for RK Puram constituency.

Senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee on Wednesday endorsed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, emphasising the need for regional parties to unite and strengthen the fight against the BJP. Banerjee, the national general secretary of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), reiterated that the opposition INDIA bloc, formed with the collective goal of defeating the BJP, has decided to empower regional parties in their strongholds.

He pointed out that this strategy was followed in Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, and should be applied to Delhi as well.

"When the INDIA bloc was formed, we decided that wherever regional parties are strong, they should take the lead in the fight against the BJP.

In Delhi, it's clear that AAP is the party capable of defeating the BJP.

They won 67 out of 70 seats in the last election. Why should we not support the party that has the best chance of defeating the BJP? Our ultimate goal is to defeat the BJP, and supporting AAP aligns with this cause," Banerjee stated.

Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday changed its candidates in Hari Nagar and Narela constituencies.

The changes were made two days before the last date of filing nominations.

The party has replaced Rajkumari Dhillon in Hari Nagar and has fielded Surinder Setia. Dinesh Bharadwaj, fielded from Narela, was replaced by Sharad Chauhan.

Sharad Chauhan will be up against BJP's Raj Karan Khatri and Congress' Aruna Kumari in Narela. Surinder Setia will face BJP's Shyam Sharma and Congress' Prem Sharma.

Earlier in the day, AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal filed nomination for the Delhi assembly polls.

Kejriwal is contesting from the New Delhi and is locked in a triangular contest against BJP's Parvesh Verma and Congress's Sandeep Dixit.

Congress on Wednesday night released its fourth list for Delhi assembly elections, naming candidates in five constituencies.

The list included Surender Kumar and Rahul Dhanak. Kumar will contest elections from the Bawana seat, which is reserved for the scheduled caste (SC) while Dhanak will contest elections from the Karol Bagh (reserved for SC).

On Tuesday, Congress had released its third list of 16 candidates for the February 5 assembly polls in Delhi.

Former AAP MLA Dharam Pal Lakda, who joined Congress recently, has been fielded from Mundka. Former Union Minister Krishna Tirath has been fielded from Patel Nagar.

"My name is Rajan Singh. Today, I have filed my nomination from Aam Janata Party. The Aam Aadmi Party government has done nothing for us in the last 10-15 years. I have filed my nomination against Delhi's most powerful women, who is known as a rubber stamp CM. This nomination is a beautiful picture of democracy when a transgender person has filed nomination against a powerful person. There are no schools for us, no hospital, no toilets. The Aam Aadmi Party will face the brunt of the transgender community in the elections this time," Singh told news agency PTI,

Delhi's Rouse Avenue court has issued notice to Delhi police on a plea moved for AAP MLA Naresh Balyan.

He has sought permission to sign documents to open a bank account and other documents required to contest Delhi Assembly elections. (ANI)

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Wednesday expressed confidence that her party would perform exceptionally well in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections provided they are conducted fairly.

Mayawati also urged the voters from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar living in Delhi to remember the "discriminatory treatment" they faced during the Covid-19 pandemic while casting their votes.

BJP on Tuesday cited the support of CM Atishi's parents for the campaign for clemency for Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru to allege that Aam Aadmi Party had links with NGOs who supported a terrorist whom Supreme Court sentenced to death for plotting the attack, which almost triggered a war with Pakistan.

Talking to reporters after Delhi Police claimed that the hundreds of calls over the past few months threatening terror attacks on schools were made by a 17-year-old whose one parent had signed the petition seeking clemency for Guru, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said Kejriwal owed an answer to people because of its antecedents. Describing the police findings as sensitive and serious, Trivedi claimed that the probe revealed the student’s parents were associated with NGOs involved in activities considered inimical to national security.

Chief Minister Atishi, All India Mahila Congress president and former MLA Alka Lamba, and serving Malviya Nagar legislator Somnath Bharti were among 43 candidates who filed their nominations on Tuesday. So far, 69 candidates have filed their nominations while the election commission has received 85 sets of documents, as several candidates file multiple sets of nomination papers.

Atishi, who took out a roadshow on Monday but didn’t file her nomination, went to the office of the returning officer of Kalkaji to deposit her documents. “On Makar Sankranti, I filed my nomination from Kalkaji with a resolve to carry forward Arvind Kejriwal's vision of honest politics,” she said. The Delhi CM is pitted against Lamba and former BJP MP from south Delhi, Ramesh Bidhuri.

Before filing the nomination, Lamba inaugurated her election office at the Kalkaji assembly constituency. Former Delhi Congress president Subhash Chopra was also present. After submitting her papers, Lamba said, she was fighting a battle for the people of Delhi.

Congress candidate from New Delhi, Sandeep Dikshit says," CAG report has made it clear that it was Rs 2000 crore scam... If they received so much money in the deal, then the PMLA case should be imposed. Even the High Court has said that AAP hiding the CAG report shows they are dishonest."

Congress on Tuesday criticised both BJP and AAP for allegedly transforming Delhi into a hub of criminal activities, noting a surge in crime cases from 80,000 to 3,00,000 over the past decade.

Supriya Shrinate, who heads Congress’ social media division, pointed out at a press conference that the local law enforcement agencies appeared more focused on harassing the underprivileged and conducting raids. Yet, neither BJP nor AAP has chosen to address this significant concern, she alleged. “When Congress comes to power in Delhi, law and order will be a priority issue to be tackled on a war footing,” she claimed.

“In 2013, 80,184 criminal cases were filed in Delhi, the crime graph almost trebled, with 3,00,429 cases being registered by 2024. Yet crime was not an issue for AAP and BJP in Delhi Assembly elections,” Shrinate said. Calling it startling, Shrinate said Delhi’s crime rate was 134% compared to the national average of 36.6%.

Delhi Police on Monday registered five FIRs in connection with the use of "fake and morphed" pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah on social media, as well as "a speech made against people from Poorvanchal".

In one of the complaints, it was alleged that a forged picture of the Prime Minister was used in a tweet. In a separate case, the complainant claimed that Aam Aadmi Party created and shared a social media post containing "a morphed and fabricated photo" of the home minister, thereby spreading misinformation.

In another case, Brijesh Rai, the office secretary of Delhi BJP and the complainant, alleged that Arvind Kejriwal made several "provocative statements" against Poorvanchalis. "These statements are not only false and deeply offensive but are also potentially dangerous to societal harmony," Rai claimed.
