J&K, Haryana Election Results 2024 Live: 'Whenever they lose they question EVMs,' says Assam CM Himanta
Election Results Haryana and Jammu Kashmir Live: The Congress raised concerns over alleged irregularities in some Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during the counting of votes for the Haryana assembly elections and demanded an investigation into these discrepancies. The party has requested the Election Commission (EC) to seal and secure the EVMs in question until the inquiry is completed.
A delegation of senior Congress leaders, including former chief ministers Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Ashok Gehlot, along with AICC representatives K C Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, Ajay Maken, and Pawan Khera, as well as Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan, met with top EC officials to discuss the matter. The delegation submitted a memorandum to the officials, detailing specific complaints from various constituencies in Haryana. Senior party leader Abhishek Singhvi participated in the meeting virtually.
The Congress leaders claimed that there are at least 20 complaints, with seven of them in writing, from different assembly constituencies. Many of these complaints referred to EVMs functioning at 99 per cent battery capacity, while the average EVMs were found to be operating at 60 to 70 per cent battery capacity during the counting process.
Former chief minister Hooda expressed surprise at the Haryana results, stating that everyone believed the Congress would form the next government in the state. He pointed out that the Congress was winning during the counting of postal ballots, but the situation changed when the counting of EVMs began. "Whenever they win they don't question EVMs. Whenever they lose they question EVMs. So this is an old practice. First of all, all Congress chief ministers should resign saying we are elected on EVMs and we don't agree with such results. So once you resign then the issue will be taken into cognizance. But if you are a beneficiary of EVMs and you question EVMs then nobody will take it seriously," said Sarma.

"Nowhere has BJP ever said - first there will be our govt and then statehood. The PM never said that. People of J&K have spoken and I hope the PM will now be magnanimous and restore statehood at the earliest," he stated.

Till Monday evening, it was like a Test match with a predictable end. On Tuesday, Haryana election results turned into a T20 bout, swinging wildly from a perceived Congress sweep to a winning show by BJP, which beat strong anti-incumbency, a buoyant opposition following a good Lok Sabha outing and exit polls to be back in governance for a record third straight term in the state.
BJP secured 48 seats, eight more than its 2019 result, achieving a comfortable majority in the 90-member assembly. The party surpassed its 2014 score, when it formed the govt on its own for the first time with 47 seats. Congress claimed 37 seats, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) two, and Independents won in three constituencies.
Congress increased its vote share by 11 percentage points and its overall share of 39.09% was almost at par with BJP’s 39.89%.
Yet, the results came as a rude shock for Congress, which had been in celebratory mood since exit polls predicted its return with a huge majority. The party was outmanoeuvred by BJP’s strategy of focusing on OBC voters and division in Dalit votes.

J&K Election Results: 5th straight win for CPM’s Tarigami in Kulgam
CPI(M) veteran Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami has secured his fifth consecutive victory in Kulgam constituency, defeating Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Sayar Reshi.
Tarigami has represented the constituency since 1996, winning the 2002, 2008, 2014 and 2024 elections. He received 33,390 votes, while Reshi, an independent candidate supported by the banned politico-religious organization Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), got 25,639 votes.
People have defeated Jamaat’s polarisation of voters, Tarigami said, adding: “This is how they were exposed… It’s a loss for their demagogic politics, their double-faced and deceptive politics.”
Tarigami has represented the constituency since 1996, winning the 2002, 2008, 2014 and 2024 elections. He received 33,390 votes, while Reshi, an independent candidate supported by the banned politico-religious organization Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), got 25,639 votes.

Haryana Election Results Live: 'Should do serious introspection', says CPI's D Raja on Congress' Haryana polls performance
Communist Party of India general secretary D Raja said on Tuesday that INDIA bloc and specifically Congress should do "serious introspection" after the Haryana election results were announced, and also questioned why the bloc's parties could not trust each other during the seat sharing discussion before the election.
"The INDIA bloc political parties would have to do serious introspection, why there was no mutual trust between each other, why no mutual accommodation at the time of seat sharing arrangement. Congress primarily should do serious introspection, on why they failed to bring all other political parties which came together under INDIA bloc," D Raja told ANI.
He claimed that despite Congress' promises, several parties which were part of the INDIA bloc could not be accommodated during the seat sharing discussions.
"Congress would have to review and think over their own strategies and tactics at the time of seat sharing and arrangements in Haryana, otherwise the results would have been different. They have to do self-critical analysis. Several INDIA bloc parties could not be accommodated when the question of seat sharing came up, despite certain promises given by the party here and there. Otherwise the results would have been different," he added.

Congress's Bharat Bhushan Batra defeated BJP's Manish Kumar Grover by securing 59419 votes on the Rohak assembly seat. Rohtak is one of the 90 assembly constituencies in Haryana, located in Rohtak district.

The Congress raised concerns over alleged irregularities in some Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during the counting of votes for the Haryana assembly elections and demanded an investigation into these discrepancies. The party has requested the Election Commission (EC) to seal and secure the EVMs in question until the inquiry is completed.
A delegation of senior Congress leaders, including former chief ministers Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Ashok Gehlot, along with AICC representatives K C Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, Ajay Maken, and Pawan Khera, as well as Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan, met with top EC officials to discuss the matter. The delegation submitted a memorandum to the officials, detailing specific complaints from various constituencies in Haryana. Senior party leader Abhishek Singhvi participated in the meeting virtually.
The Congress leaders claimed that there are at least 20 complaints, with seven of them in writing, from different assembly constituencies. Many of these complaints referred to EVMs functioning at 99 per cent battery capacity, while the average EVMs were found to be operating at 60 to 70 per cent battery capacity during the counting process.
Former chief minister Hooda expressed surprise at the Haryana results, stating that everyone believed the Congress would form the next government in the state. He pointed out that the Congress was winning during the counting of postal ballots, but the situation changed when the counting of EVMs began.
