The Indian Armed Forces launched 'Operation Sindoor' on Wednesday, executing targeted strikes against nine terrorist facilities across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), in response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.
An official communication from the defence minister's office confirmed that the Indian Armed Forces had begun 'OPERATION SINDOOR', striking terrorist installations in Pakistan and PoJK that were identified as centres for orchestrating attacks against India.
The operation targeted nine specific locations with a measured, restricted strategy, deliberately avoiding Pakistani military facilities.
The ministry highlighted India's careful target selection and operational methods, responding to the "barbaric" Pahalgam incident that took 25 Indian lives and one Nepali citizen. The Ministry stated its resolve to ensure accountability, with a detailed briefing on 'OPERATION SINDOOR' scheduled for later that day.

Qatar expresses solidarity with India after Pahalgam terror attack, supports fight against terrorism
Following the terror attack in Pahalgam, the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, conveyed his condolences and full support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a telephonic conversation on Tuesday.
Expressing Qatar's backing for India's fight against terrorism and its pursuit of justice, the Amir reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the India-Qatar Strategic Partnership.
Sharing a post on X, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson wrote, "In a telephonic conversation with PM @narendramodi today, the Amir of the State of Qatar, HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani @TamimBinHama conveyed condolences and solidarity with the people of India at the loss of lives in the cross-border terror attack in Pahalgam, India. He expressed full support in India's fight against terrorism and all its actions to bring the perpetrators to justice."

India strongly rejects OIC statement on Pahalgam terror attack as 'absurd'
India on Tuesday slammed the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for refusing to recognise cross-border linkages to the Pahalgam terror attack and described its statement on the horrific strike as "absurd". The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the OIC issued the statement at Pakistan's behest.
"The OIC statement, issued at the behest of Pakistan, is absurd in refusing to recognise the facts of the Pahalgam terrorist attack and its cross-border linkages," MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
"This is yet another attempt by Pakistan, a country that has long engaged in cross-border terrorism, to manipulate and misguide the OIC group to issue a self-serving statement," he said.
"We reject the OIC's interference on matters that are internal to India," Jaiswal added.
In its statement, the OIC expressed "deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in the South Asian region and called for restraint and the urgent resumption of dialogue between India and Pakistan".
The OIC also called for resolving the differences between the two sides "through peaceful means, in accordance with international law and the UN Charter".

IAF to begin major air exercise near Pakistan border from May 7; frontline fighters Rafale, Mirage, Su-30s to participate
The Indian Air Force (IAF) will begin a major air exercise over the desert sector and nearby areas along the India-Pakistan border from May 7, involving its frontline fighter aircraft, IAF officials said on Monday.
According to the officials, all frontline aircraft including the Rafale, Mirage 2000 and Sukhoi-30s, will participate in the drill.
A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by aviation authorities says the exercise will continue till May 15, and some airspace over Rajasthan will be temporarily closed to civil flights during the exercise.
The restricted zones cover parts of the Pokhran range and surrounding areas.
"All civil scheduled flights operating in the exercise areas will be accommodated by the Indian Air Force," the NOTAM noted.
This comes after tensions arose between India and Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people, mostly tourists were killed.
On the other hand, the Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan held a meeting over mock drills which are to be conducted all over the country today for the effective Civil Defence Several high-ranking officials, including the DG Civil Defence and DG NDRF who attended the meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
"We are reviewing preparedness. Loopholes to be rectified have been identified," said a member of the National Disaster Management Authority after the MHA meeting.

Mock drills in nearly 300 districts with nuclear plants, refineries, other vital installations

Congress MP and former diplomat Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday said that the recent United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting on India-Pakistan tensions did not go in Pakistan's favour, with several member countries raising difficult questions on terrorism and Lashkar-Taiba (Let), a terror outfit under Islamabad's shelter.
Referring to unofficial briefings from inside the closed-door session, Tharoor said, "Everything we hear about this is not official or confirmed, but what we hear, however, from these background meetings is that it did not appear to have gone well for Pakistan as they would have hoped. They are one of the 15 members, they are a member, India is not in the room. In these circumstances, Pakistan would have thought that they had an advantage but the impression is that the delegations asked tough questions, particularly about Lashkar-e-Taiba, and the concerns have largely been about terrorism, how it is extremely dangerous and that it can understandably provoke an Indian reaction."

The Asian Development Bank on Monday said that issues related to Pakistan were not discussed during the bilateral meeting with ADB President Masato Kanda and Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
"The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is aware of media reports claiming that issues related to Pakistan were discussed during the bilateral meeting between ADB President Masato Kanda and Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on the sidelines of the 58th ADB Annual Meeting in Milan, Italy," said the multilateral development bank as per an official release.

Pahalgam Terror Attack: Parliamentary panel seeks action against anti-national social media platforms, influencers
In the wake of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology has expressed serious concern over the role of certain social media platforms and influencers allegedly acting against national interests.
As per an official memorandum issued by the Standing Committee on Information Technology Branch, "Post terror attack in Pahalgam on 22 April, 2025 some social media influencers and social media platforms in the country seem to be working against the interest of the country which is likely to incite violence."
The committee has requested Ministry of Electronics and IT and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to provide the contemplated action taken to ban such platforms under IT Act 2000 and 'Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 by May 8.
"The Ministry of Electronics and IT and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting are requested to provide the contemplated action taken to ban such platforms under IT Act 2000 and 'Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. The desired information may be furnished to this Committee by 8 May, 2025, positively," the memorandum stated.
The terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, resulted in the tragic loss of 26 lives, most of them tourists.
The government has given the armed forces complete operational freedom to decide on the mode, targets, and timing of India's response in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack. The government has also announced a series of measures, including putting the Indus Water Treaty in abeyance, to send a strong message to Pakistan for its support of cross-border terrorism.

Pahalgam Terror Attack: Japan offers 'full support' to India
India and Japan on Monday pitched for united global efforts to confront terrorism in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack with Defence minister Rajnath Singh condemning Pakistan's policy of "cross-border" terrorist activities targeting India. The Pahalgam terror attack of April 22 figured prominently in talks between Singh and his visiting counterpart Gen Nakatani that largely focused on boosting India-Japan defence ties in new areas including tank engines and aero engines.
"Singh condemned Pakistan's state policy of cross-border terrorism against India, perpetrated through state and non-state actors," the defence ministry said in a readout.
"He stated that such attacks destabilise regional peace and security. Rajnath Singh called for a unified stand against terrorism and the state-sponsored actions that perpetuate it," it said.
The Japanese defence minister expressed his condolences on the death of 26 civilians in the terror attack and offered "full support" to India, the ministry said.
The two ministers agreed to "add new dimensions" to the "robust" maritime cooperation between India and Japan, it said.
Nakatani's visit to India came amid its heightened tensions with Pakistan.
"I would like to thank the government of Japan for their strong expression of solidarity with India in the wake of the Pahalgam terrorist attack," Singh said in his opening remarks at the delegation-level talks that followed a one-on-one meeting.

Pahalgam Terror Attack: Traders in Vrindavan shutdown shops to protest against Pahalgam terror attack
Traders in Vrindavan kept their shops shut on Monday in response to a "bandh" call by local Hindu organisations to protest against the terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 people. The shutdown was supported by various organisations including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Nagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal, Tirth Purohit Mahasabha, Rashtriya Dharm Raksha Sangh, and the Akhil Bharatiya Brahmin Mahasabha, whose members also shut down their establishments in solidarity.
Earlier, on Sunday evening, office-bearers of the supporting groups held a motorcycle rally which created visible momentum for the shutdown that followed.

Pahalgam Terror Attack: S Jaishankar appreciates Japan's support for India over Pahalgam terrorist attack
External affairs minister Jaishankar on Monday met with Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan, Fukushiro Nukaga and thanked him for expressing solidarity and support following the Pahalgam terrorist attack.
Jaishankar further appreciated his leadership in developing the "natural relationship" between India and Japan.
In a post on X, Jaishankar wrote, "Delighted to meet Speaker Fukushiro Nukaga of the House of Representatives of Japan today in Delhi, along with his Parliamentary colleagues and business delegation. Thank him for the expression of solidarity and support on the Pahalgam terrorist attack."

The Punjab Assembly on Monday paid tributes to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. The one-day special session of the Assembly has been convened to discuss the water-sharing conflict with Haryana.
At the beginning of the session, the members of the House remembered the 26 people who were killed in the attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22 and strongly condemned the cowardly act of terrorists against unarmed tourists.
The House expressed hope that the Centre and the state government will not leave any stone unturned to bring the perpetrators to book and also ensure that such incidents do not recur.
The House also remembered former MP Master Bhagat Ram and former minister Randhir Singh Cheema. The members of the House observed a two-minute silence to pay homage to the departed souls.
The water sharing issue between Punjab and Haryana escalated after the AAP government refused to allow the release of more water to the neighbouring state, even as the Nayab Singh Saini-led dispensation in Haryana resolved to safeguard the state's rightful share of water.
The Punjab government maintains that Haryana has "already used 103 per cent of the allocated water by March".

The defence minister's office issued an official statement confirming that the Indian Armed Forces had commenced 'OPERATION SINDOOR', targeting terrorist facilities in Pakistan and PoJK, which were identified as bases for planning and directing attacks against India.
The operation engaged nine distinct locations with a calculated, limited approach, specifically avoiding Pakistani military establishments.
The ministry emphasised India's prudent selection of targets and execution methods, noting that these actions were taken in response to the "barbaric" Pahalgam attack that claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. The Ministry affirmed its commitment to holding the perpetrators accountable, announcing that a comprehensive briefing on 'OPERATION SINDOOR' would follow later in the day.
The Indian Army subsequently posted on X: "Justice is served. Jai Hind!"
