Union home minister Amit Shah on Monday discussed the situation in Jawaharlal Nehru University with Delhi lieutenant governor and the HRD ministry called an urgent meeting, as anger over the violence the night before found resonance in universities across the country and an uneasy calm settled on the campus. A day after masked people brandishing hockey sticks and iron rods unleashed mayhem, trawling through corridors and breaking into hostels, including those occupied by women, Delhi Police registered a case against unidentified people for rioting and damage to property.

HRD ministry meets JNU officials, VC Jagadesh Kumar stays away
The HRD ministry on Monday met officials from the JNU administration and took stock of the situation on the campus following Sunday's violence, even as Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar skipped the meeting. The meeting was attended by the JNU registrar, proctor and other admin officials who briefed the ministry officials on the sequence of events that took place on the campus and the measures taken to restore normalcy. JNU students subjected to cowardly but planned attack: Sharad Pawar
NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Monday said JNU students were subjected to a "cowardly and planned attack", adding that use of violence to suppress democratic values won't succeed. Pawar's remarks came as his party minister Jitendra Awhad joined the students protesting the violence, at the Gateway of India here. "JNU students and professors were subjected to a cowardly but planned attack. I strongly condemn this undemocratic act of vandalism and violence. Use of violent means to suppress democratic values and thought will never succeed," Pawar tweeted. Violence broke out in JNU on Sunday night as masked men armed with sticks and rods attacked students and teachers and damaged property on the campus, prompting the administration to call in police which conducted a flag march. DCW issues notice to Delhi Police in connection with violence at JNU
Delhi Commission For Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal issued a notice to Delhi Police on Monday in connection with the violence at JNU the day before. In the notice, Maliwal has sought details of the FIR registered in the case and reasons for not responding to violence immediately.

Prakash Javadekar blames JNU violence on Congress, AAP, Left
Barely 12 hours after the violence in Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University, union minister Prakash Javadekar blamed it on the opposition Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and Left parties. Taking to Twitter, Javadekar said: "I condemn yesterday's violence in JNU. Few elements along with a group from Congress, AAP and Communists deliberately wants to create an atmosphere of violence across India and particularly in universities. There should be an inquiry against them." The minister has also demanded an inquiry on who were creating hurdles in semester exam registration at JNU by lockdown of the server room. Recently JNU went into a lockdown following which Vice Chancellor Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar blamed it on 10-15 people and had warned of filing a police complaint against them.
