After staying silent for days since the controversy erupted, Shubhangi Atre has finally opened up on the matter. Responding to Shilpa’s comment on how comedy is difficult and more so copying someone else’s character, she says, “Absolutely, comedy is extremely difficult, and playing the same character continuously for 10 years is also very tough. There is always a certain demand from a character and its specific traits. So yes, in one line, I would say, ‘Kirdar kalaakar se bada hota hai.’ If someone understands this, they will know that every character already has a defined framework. On television, we have seen many replacements, and every actor who steps in follows the established traits of that character. I have played many characters in my career, and over the last 10 years, whatever responsibilities I had while playing Angoori, I fulfilled them with complete honesty, dedication and sincerity, while staying true to the character’s defined traits.”
Asked if anyone from the Bhabiji team reached out to her after the controversy broke out, she replies, “No one from the cast called me, but that’s fine. I give all of them my best wishes for Bhabhiji 2.0. For all the days that I was part of the show, they were like my extended family, and I wish them all the very best.”

She adds, “I want to thank my audience and colleagues who sent me personal messages. I will keep working hard, and I will continue entertaining my audience till my last breath.”
In a previous chat with us, while talking about breaking out of the Angoori image after portraying the part for nearly 10 years, Shubhangi had said, “I think social media has played a very helpful role. Earlier, people only saw us on TV and did not know much about our real personalities. Social media allows them to know me as Shubhangi. I simply hope that the audience continues to support me and embraces me in every new character I take on, because this next phase is about growing beyond Angoori and discovering myself again as an actor.”
