Tensions between Russia and NATO’s Baltic members are escalating after Latvia and Lithuania strongly denied Moscow’s accusations that they are helping Ukraine carry out drone strikes deep inside Russian territory. Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže firmly rejected claims that Latvia was allowing Ukraine to use its airspace, land, or sea for attacks on Russia. Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys also dismissed Russia’s accusations, saying Baltic countries were not enabling Ukrainian operations against Russian targets. The denials came after Russia’s foreign intelligence service accused Latvia of assisting Ukraine’s drone campaign. Moscow has also issued fresh warnings to NATO, with Russia’s UN envoy Vasily Nebenzya declaring that NATO membership would not protect Latvia from retaliation if it became involved in attacks against Russia.
