Tensions escalated in Kolkata’s Bhabanipur constituency during the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 after Chief Minister and TMC candidate Mamata Banerjee made serious allegations against central forces deployed on polling duty. She claimed that CRPF personnel and central observers carried out “atrocities” since the previous night, alleging that several Trinamool Congress workers were detained and voters were harassed. Banerjee further alleged that there was no presence of state police at polling booths and accused central forces of taking complete control of the election process. She described the situation as a “contempt of democracy,” stating that she had never witnessed such circumstances in her long political career.The Chief Minister also claimed that women and children were not spared during the alleged actions. Despite the controversy, she expressed confidence in her party’s performance, asserting that the Trinamool Congress is set to win the elections.
