Bhangar, a politically sensitive constituency on the fringes of Greater Kolkata, is once again witnessing a high-stakes electoral battle. From the unrest of 2017 to ISF’s breakthrough victory in 2021, the seat has remained a symbol of resistance politics and organisational challenge to the ruling party.This time, Naushad Siddiqui of ISF faces a strong challenge from TMC’s Saokat Molla in a contest shaped by both ground realities and political narratives. Residents raise concerns over poor roads, drinking water shortages, housing delays, rising farming costs, and inconsistent delivery of welfare schemes.Adding to the tension is the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), with allegations of voter name deletions and fears of unequal scrutiny emerging in parts of the constituency. While some voters praise accessibility and local engagement, others point to governance and delivery issues under the current political structure. With divided loyalties, welfare dependence, and rising political polarisation, Bhangar is set to remain one of the most closely watched battlegrounds in Bengal politics.
