Delhi-Dehradun e-way to see traffic diversion from May 22
Dehradun: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will implement a temporary traffic diversion on a stretch of the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor from May 22 to June 8 to facilitate slope stabilisation work on phase 4 of the project between Ganeshpur and Dehradun, officials said on Thursday.According to NHAI, the work is being carried out to further strengthen commuter safety on the mountainous section of the corridor. The proposed operations include scaling hill slopes and removing excess debris along the highway stretch. NHAI said additional forest land has been diverted for the project and all necessary clearances have been obtained. The work is expected to be completed before the onset of the monsoon. To ensure safe vehicular movement during the work, traffic diversion will be enforced on an approximately 1.25-km stretch of the highway. The remaining sections of the corridor will remain open for regular traffic. Flagmen will also be deployed round the clock to guide commuters and streamline vehicular movement.Under the diversion plan, vehicles travelling towards Dehradun will be shifted from the left-hand carriageway to the right-hand carriageway and diverted back near the Daat Kali Tunnel. Vehicles heading towards Delhi and Saharanpur will be diverted onto the old highway section after crossing the Daat Kali Tunnel and will rejoin the expressway after around 1.3 km.
The Ganeshpur-Dehradun stretch of the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor passes through hilly terrain where hill cutting was carried out for widening works. Anticipating the risk of rockfalls, NHAI has already installed stone catchers at sensitive locations.
