Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: South Central Railway on Wednesday announced of approving the commissioning of a Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal at Potul station in Gangapur taluka of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The terminal, slated for completion by Oct, is expected to significantly boost the region's freight logistics ecosystem.
Railway officials said the upcoming facility would provide industries and commercial units in and around the area with direct access to efficient rail-based cargo movement. "The terminal, approved for a Limited Liability Partnership company, will streamline the loading and unloading of finished goods, industrial products and raw materials for automobile units, reducing reliance on long-haul road transport," Rajesh Shinde, chief publicity inspector of South Central Railway (SCR)'s Nanded division, said.
Industries dealing with metals, minerals, construction materials and various manufactured products are likely to benefit from the cost-effective and reliable rail logistics, he said.
According to railway authorities, the Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal (GCT) will handle a diverse mix of commodities generated from nearby industrial zones, especially those developed by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). They said the terminal would enhance the region's freight-loading capacity, spur industrial growth and further strengthen the Indian Railways' logistics network.
