BENGALURU: As many as 125 Chennai-bound air passengers were stranded at the Kempegowda International Air port for nearly five hours on Tuesday, after their IndiGo flight failed to take off to the rain-ravaged capital of Tamil Nadu.
The flight was to leave at 7.20pm. Till 10pm, there was no news of the flight taking off. The noticeboard at the departure terminal only said the flight would leave at 11.59pm.
Passengers waited with an air of uncertainty as Chennai airport itself was due to shut operations till 11pm.
"As of 9.45pm Tuesday, there were no flight cancellations to Chennai. There was delay in an Indigo flight, which was supposed to take off at 7.20pm. We facilitated cabs for those passengers who wished to travel by road and those at the terminal due to flight delay were given good care," said a KIA spokesperson.
An IndiGo spokesperson said flights stand cancelled on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
Asked about any advisory to flyers intending to go to Chennai, the KIA spokesperson said, "We always request air passengers to check with their respective airlines for the status of flights." It was learnt that a second IndiGo flight had also been scheduled to leave at 11.59pm.
Around 10pm, the KIA website said a Jet Airways flight (9W 2736) scheduled to take off for Chennai at 10.25pm, had been cancelled.
Chennai train delayed Around 9.30pm, South Western Railway (SWR) officials said they didn't announce any train cancellations. "There was one train from Chennai which was delayed by 40 minutes ," said S Biswas, spokesperson for SWR. A KSRTC spokesperson said they have not cancelled any bus services to and from Chennai.
