Cop carries specially challenged man on shoulder to cross flooded road in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: A constable attached to Byatarayanapura traffic police station won appreciation from netizens after a `buddy carry’ video in which he is seen helping a person with disablity (PwD) in a waterlogged road went viral.
The incident occurred around 7:30pm Friday when water started overflowing onto Mysuru Road. Constable HM Anil was manning traffic opposite KSRTC bus terminal on Mysuru Road and also helping pedestrians cross the busy road as many vehicles, even when the traffic signal turned red, did not stop.
“I saw a man waiting to cross the road from the bus terminal. I called him loudly, saying ‘Sir banni’. He signalled to come towads him. I went near him and saw he was specially challenged. He told me it was difficult for him to cross the road as water flow was increasing,” Anil said.
Holding his hand, the constable helped the man and they started crossing the road. However, on reaching the middle, the man found it difficult as he started losing balance. “Realising the risk and danger he was in, I lifted him on the shoulder and crossed the road. Also, I asked him to wait till rain stops. He thanked me and walked away,” Anil told TOI.
By then, some of Anil’s friends, who were standing on the opposite pavement, recorded his act on their mobile and shared it on social media. By Saturday, the video went viral, with netizens praising Anil.
