Karnataka Hijab Row Updates: Classes 9, 10 to reopen from Monday, decision on seniors and colleges later

The three-judge bench of the Karnataka high court has begun hearing the petitions questioning the ban on wearing of 'hijabs' (headscarves) by students in colleges. Chief Justice of HC Ritu Raj Awasthi has constituted a full bench comprising himself, Justice Krishna S Dixit and Justice Jaibunnisa M Khazi in view of the urgency to hear the matter. Meanwhile, the Supreme court on Thursday declined to urgently list a plea seeking transfer of the petitions from the high court.

Hijab row: Calm prevails in educational institutions following 3-day holiday
Calm prevailed on Wednesday in the educational institutions which witnessed tense moments over the Hijab row earlier, as the Karnataka government had ordered closure of all high schools and colleges in the state for three days. Most of them returned to the online mode of teaching, sources said. Primary schools functioned as usual across the state without any interruption. Protests for and against the 'hijab' had intensified in different parts of Karnataka and turned violent in some places on Tuesday. (PTI)

While all attention is on the Karnataka high court's verdict expected Wednesday on wearing hijab, Karnataka BJP Minister for Power, Kannada and Culture V. Sunil Kumar said, "We should respect the order of the High Court on hijab row." Speaking to reporters, minister Sunil Kumar attacked Congress, saying "if it comes to power, the leaders of Congress will make the wearing of hijab compulsory for Hindus. It's a woman's right to wear whatever she wants, be it bikini, hijab, saree, jeans or 'ghoonghat'. No one has the right to tell a woman what to wear. There shouldn't be any politics on this.

The students didn't want to gherao the girl who was coming outside the college in Mandya. No other student was around her when she shouted "Allah-hu-Akbar". Was she provoked? Can't encourage "Allah hu Akbar' or 'Jai Shri Ram' on campus.

Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday said that the Karnataka government should resolve the hijab row and Opposition parties should not use the controversy for political gains. Speaking to ANI, Kharge said, "The government should resolve the hijab row according to the rules. Opposition parties should not use the hijab controversy for political gains." Malikarjuna said that if any student breaks discipline or does any work against the rules, then the government should discontinue the grants.

Hijab row: Will abide by court order, says student who shouted 'Allah-hu-Akbar'
The burka-clad student Muskaan Khan, who faced the wrath of the crowd raising slogans of "Jai Sri Ram" on a college premises, on Wednesday that she will abide by the court order regarding the wearing of hijab. Muskaan, the student of PES College of Arts, Science and Commerce in Mandya district was heckled by the crowd on the college premises for wearing burka. She confronted the crowd, chanting the counter slogan of "Allah-hu-Akbar" even as hundreds of students chased and raised slogans of "Jai Sriram". The video has gone viral on social media, raising concerns all over the state. (IANS)

There was a report that the national flag was lowered & in place of that a saffron flag was put up but there was no national flag on the poll. Only a saffron flag was hoisted on top of the poll & later they removed it themselves.
