Bhopal:Local talents Reet Soni and Aashriya Singh announced themselves as early standouts at the Pickleball World Ranking 200-point tournament, which got under way at the Pickleball Ace Club on the Rajiv Gandhi College campus.In the Under-12 girls’ final, Bhopal’s Reet Soni produced a dominant display to claim the title, defeating Indore’s Ridvika Patidar 15-2. The convincing scoreline underlined Soni’s command on the court and provided an encouraging start for the host city’s contingent.Later in the day, Indore’s Aashriya Singh took the Under-18 girls’ crown, overpowering Bhopal’s Vaishnavi 15-1 in a one-sided final. Aashriya’s emphatic victory reinforced her status as a player to watch as the event unfolds.The tournament was officially inaugurated by Kulbhushan Mittal, President of the Madhya Pradesh Pickleball Association. Vice-presidents Disha Mittal and Manav Pandey were also present for the opening ceremony. Organizing Secretary Aditya Sur reported that play proceeded smoothly overall despite brief interruptions due to rain, with organizers quickly resuming action after each stoppage.This 200-point ranking event has attracted a broad cross-section of competitors, with participants ranging in age from 7 to 65.
The draw spans multiple divisions, including youth, practicing, Open and veterans’ categories, reflecting the sport’s growing appeal across generations. Both Soni and Aashriya picked up valuable ranking points from their wins, an important currency for players aiming to climb national and international standings.Organizers highlighted strong participation across categories and said tournament would feature more high-stakes matches, with several finals scheduled in the coming days.
