Bhopal: KGP11, a 27-month-old Indian-born female cheetah, died during treatment at Palpur veterinary facility inside Kuno National Park on Saturday. The cheetah was injured near Pahargarh area of Morena district on June 1.
Officials said the exact cause of death would be determined after a post-mortem examination scheduled for Sunday.
With KGP11’s death, the cheetah population at Kuno National Park now stands at 49, including 32 Indian-born cheetahs. Of these, 19 are currently roaming free in the wild, while the remaining animals are under observation and reported to be healthy, as per Cheetah Project authorities.
India’s overall cheetah population has now fallen to 52, with 49 in Kuno National Park and three at Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary.
