Ganja worth Rs 2cr seized from a village in Gajapati district
Berhampur: Gajapati police on Wednesday seized around 1.83 tonnes of ganja worth around Rs 2 crore from Buripadara village under R. Udayagiri police station limits. The contraband was seized from different places in the village and was suspected to have been stored to be transported illegally to some other areas, said in-charge SP (Gajapati) Saravana Vivek M.No arrest has been made. “The accused persons fled into the nearby forest after seeing police vehicles,” said sub-divisional police officer (R.Udayagiri) Rakesh Sahoo, who led the raid party. The ganja packed in plastic jerry bags was stored in residential houses, cow sheds and other places. “We have identified the accused and they will be arrested soon,” he said.It is the third major ganja haul in the district in last 10 days. On March 25, they had seized over 4.06 tones of ganja worth around Rs 4 crore from Keshariguda under Adava police station limits. On March 20, they seized around 700 kg ganja from Rajapur village.
