Congress-backed Reema Soni storms to victory in Uklana civic polls
Hisar: In a significant political upset in Hisar district, Congress-backed independent candidate Reema Soni registered a sweeping victory in the Uklana municipal committee chairperson election, defeating BJP candidate Nikita Goyal by a massive margin of 2,806 votes. The result has sparked celebrations among Congress supporters and intensified political discussions in the region. Reema Soni secured a total of 7,078 votes, while BJP-backed candidate Nikita Goyal, daughter-in-law of former municipal committee chairman and BJP leader Srinivas Goyal, managed to get 4,272 votes. The result became almost clear within the first few rounds of counting, with Reema maintaining a strong lead throughout the process. The counting concluded in four rounds, and political observers described the result as a one-sided contest. BJP leader Srinivas Goyal reportedly left the counting centre along with his daughter-in-law after the second round as the trend continued to favour Reema Soni. As soon as the third round ended, jubilant supporters of Reema Soni began celebrating outside the counting centre. Party workers smeared gulal, raised slogans and danced to drumbeats.
Reema's father Harish Soni came out of the counting centre and claimed a landslide victory even before the final announcement. The election also witnessed a surprising shift in voting patterns, as Reema Soni reportedly received substantial support even in wards and booths considered strongholds of BJP leader Srinivas Goyal. Soon after the official declaration, SDM Ashvir Nain handed over the certificate of victory to Reema Soni amid loud cheers from supporters.
