Bathinda: The Punjab vigilance bureau (VB) on Wednesday registered a case against a kanungo posted in the revenue office at Golewala village in Faridkot for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000.
A bureau official said a resident of Bagthala village in Faridkot has accused the revenue official, Varinder Singh, of demanding a bribe of Rs 80,000 to give him possession of his land.
The complaint was filed on the chief minister's anti-corruption helpline, alleging that the kanungo had demanded the bribe in spite of a court ordering the revenue department to give him possession of his land.
The complainant claimed that he had given Rs 40,000 as the first instalment of the bribe. He submitted a video of this handover as evidence to the bureau.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the vigilance bureau's police station in Ferozepur.
