'Only kin can meet Hawara'

CHANDIGARH: Additional IG (jails) and Burail jail superintendent Navjotpal Singh Randhawa stated in a reply filed in Punjab and Haryana High Court that only the relatives of Beant Singh assassination convict Jagtar Singh Hawara were allowed to meet him in prison. This is being done to avoid Hawara misusing the visitors��� facility as evidenced in the jail break incident of 2004, mentioned Randhawa���s statement that was submitted on Wednesday.
The reply was filed in response to Hawara���s petition.Randhawa also stated that Hawara was not being kept in solitary confinement as averred in the petition. Hawara had sought directions that he be allowed to meet his relatives. The matter has now been adjourned to April 21.
