The Commissioner of Railway Safety has authorised the opening of the 14.6km Phase-2 stretch from Poonamallee Bypass to Vadapalani, clearing the line for passenger operations.

Trains will operate every 15 minutes between Poonamallee Bypass and Porur Junction metro stations during the initial phase.

Between Porur Junction and Vadapalani, only one train in each direction will run at a 20-minute interval due to operational restrictions.

Trains on the Porur Junction–Vadapalani section will run at a capped speed of 25kmph, lower than the usual 35kmph average.

The total journey from Poonamallee Bypass to Vadapalani is expected to take around 35 minutes under current restrictions.

Operations on the double-decker section are subject to completion of 26 deck slabs, which is expected by March 25.

Out of 17 elevated stations on the stretch, only 11 — including 10 up to Porur Junction and Vadapalani — will open in the first phase.
