Clinical hypnotherapist Rama Awasthi suggests ways to get rid of addictions. Shed emotional baggage to overcome dependencies, she says...Addiction is a kind of dependency our mind seeks to resolve its conflicts . For those addicted to something, addiction works like a support system. In reality , it negatively affects an addict’s physical and emotional health.
People get addicted to intoxicants, when they feel empty within.
Tackle your insecurities:
Everything seems to be fine at the conscious level, but the void within wreaks havoc and creates conflict at a subtle level; addictions provide comfort from this conflict. In order to free ourselves from addictions , we need to recognise this void and be willing to heal it. Unknowingly and unintentionally , we create this void, when we feel insecure. To a large extent, our needs and desires are based on perceptions of other people. We carry too much emotional baggage from the time of our childhood. Even when we are struggling inside, we mask our feelings to appear happy before the world. Even will power does not help much in overcoming addictions because it is a tool of our logical mind. Addictions are associated with the subconscious mind which is not analytical, and far more powerful than our logical mind. We can handle the issue of addiction scientifically by healing the void within.
You are special:
If you wish to get rid of an addiction, start by telling yourself that you are special. It is all about self-respect and a lot depends on how you perceive yourself. Be open to other people’s ideas and suggestions, but in the end, what you think about yourself is what matters. We carry emotional baggage, which doesn’t help us in the long run. It’s best if you let go of emotional patterns that affect your emotional and mental health. Children who grow up in unfriendly environments tend to live with excessive anger or sadness and are vulnerable to emptiness. With professional help, one can deal with these unwanted patterns. Teenagers who have a tendency to procrastinate are also more susceptible to have voids and have a tendency to become addicts. By being aware, we can help ourselves in overcoming addictions . So be more aware of your surroundings, rather than living in the past or thinking of the future. When we enjoy what we do, it provides us a safe space making us stronger.
