Kris Gopalakrishnan joins board of IIT-M

Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan has joined the board of directors of IIT-Madras, the institute announced on Thursday.

CHENNAI: Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan has joined the board of directors of IIT-Madras, the institute announced on Thursday. The nomination of 56-year-old Gopalkrishnan, an IIT-M alumnus, to the 12-member board, the institute’s highest decision-making body, was made by the IIT Council. The council is the governing body of all the IITs in the country.

In a press release, IIT-M director Bhaskar Ramamurthi said, “Kris Gopalakrishnan represents a generation of engineer-scientists who have made India a global player in the software industry. His experience will be a valuable asset to the institute.”
Gopalakrishnan, executive vice-chairman of Infosys Technologies, joined IIT-M in 1975 and graduated four years later with an MSc in physics and MTech in computer science. He has contributed to the setting up of the P G Senapathy Centre for Computing Resources, said to be one of the most powerful in the country. He also serves as chairperson of the IIT-Madras Alumni Charitable Trust, and is a member of the board of directors of the IIT-Madras Research Park.
“As an alumnus of IIT-Madras, I consider it a great honour to be invited to join the board of directors of this esteemed institute. This is an opportunity for me to support the institute’s operations as a member of the board. It is important to raise the stature and standard of our education and research institutions and I look forward to contributing towards this,” Gopalakrishnan said in the release.
