CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government has sanctioned Rs 10 lakh each to the families of four personnel who were buried alive when an avalanche hit an army post in Siachen last week.
In a statement on Tuesday, chief minister J Jayalalithaa said Havildar M Elumalai of Vellore, Havildar S Kumar, Sepoy G Ganesan of Madurai and Sepoy N Ramamurthy of Krishnagiri were buried alive in Siachen on February 3.

"I was shocked to know that four from the state have sacrificed their lives guarding the nation," she said.
“I convey my condolence and announce Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the four personnel,” said Jayalalithaa.
The government also announced a financial aid of Rs 1 lakh each to the families of Punyakodi, Venkataraman, Manikandan and Siva who drowned in a temple tank in Tiruvannamalai on Monday.
