KALLAKURICHI: A man murdered his second wife and her lover, beheaded the bodies at a village near Kallakurichi, and surrendered before Vellore central prison with the two severed heads in a bag. The prison authorities handed the man over to Kallakurichi district police officials.

The man was identified as K Kolanji, 60, a daily wage worker from Malaikottalam village near Kallakurichi. The victims were identified as his second wife, K Lakhmi, 40, and her lover, K Thangarasu, 57, a farmer from the same village.The gruesome double murder came to light when Kolanji’s neighbours found the headless bodies of a woman and a man on the terrace of Kolanji’s house. They alerted the police.

A team led by Kallakurichi DSP S Thangavel visited the crime spot and made preliminary inquiries. A sniffer dog was pressed into service, and a forensic team combed the crime scene for vital clues. The police team recovered the bodies and sent them for postmortem examinations.Varanjaram police registered a case, arrested Kulanji, recovered the severed heads from him, and sent them for postmortem examinations. On inquiries, Kulanji admitted to murdering his wife and her lover as they refused to break their illegal relationship. Police recovered the weapon he used to commit the murders.
