COIMABTORE: The joy of Coimbatorians touched a notch higher on Sunday as the Happy Streets entered its 25{+t}{+h} week. Also, people joined hands with the civic body and removed hoardings at R S Puram.
The city municipal corporation commissioner K Vijayakarthikeyan along with corporation officials, NGOs and public removed hoardings on the pavement of D B Road and T V Samy Road at R S Puram.
The billboards were cleared away, which eventually facilitated people to utilize the pavements for walking.
Simultaneously, the fun activities continued happening at the event to entertain and engage participants. Children actively took part in organising activities and games like cricket and cycling.
There was a great jubilation on the streets, when a group of people started playing 'Chenda Melam', a traditional music form of Kerala.
Moreover, the Ganga Institute of Health Sciences organised a mime show to create awareness about road safety. The act showed the impact of accidents on people's life and the difficulties one has to face after becoming disabled. The show portrayed the dangers of using mobile phone while driving and risk of drunk and driving.
Managing Trustee of Siruthuli, an environmental NGO, Vanitha Mohan said, "The Coimbatore Corporation doing everything to keep the city clean. We generate garbage and the corporation disposes it. They supply water, while we waste it. If we do our part to keep the city tidy, we can make our city smarter."
