Uttarkashi: The weather pattern has changed suddenly in Uttarakhand, with snowfall in high altitude areas and light rain in the low-lying areas of Uttarkashi district on Sunday evening and Monday, bringing down the maximum and minimum temperature by several notches.
Snowfall has brought cheer to apple growers and cultivators of other crops, as rain and snowfall during March prove beneficial for crop yields.
Approximately seven to eight inches of snow have been recorded at the Gangotri and Yamunotri dhams. Additionally, about three to four inches of snow was recorded in Harsil and in the high-altitude villages of the district such as Geeth, Mori among others.
In the lower areas, the sky remained overcast throughout the day on Monday following rainfall on Sunday night. In the district headquarters, 18 mm rainfall was recorded while Gangotri range recorded 20 mm rainfall, said district disaster management officer Shardul Gushai.
People had been eagerly waiting for rain and snow as the lack of precipitation had left crops on the verge of withering away.
