NEW DELHI: Five-time
Congress MLA and former minister Haroon Yusuf was on Friday appointed as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party. He is one of the MLAs who survived the anti-Congress wave in the December 4 assembly polls. A leader from the minority community, Yusuf has been representing the Ballimaran constituency since 1993.
In the 2013 polls, just eight MLAs made a comeback, of which four were from Muslim dominated areas.
Since the debacle, the party has been strategically planning its revival and, as a first, it has started to focus on organizational reforms.
Congress, which was in power for 15 years with 43 MLAs in its third term, government was ruthlessly thrown out by the people.
First, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee found a new president in MLA Arvinder Singh and now the command to lead the battles on the floor of the House has been given to Haroon Yusuf. Congress MLA from Sultanpur Majra, Jai Kishan, has been made deputy CLP leader. Badli MLA Devender Yadav has been appointed chief whip of the CLP.
