Meeting to rename airports in K’taka to be held on May 2

Hubballi: A preliminary meeting will be organised in Hubballi on May 2, to prepare the outline of the next struggle for the movement to name the five major airports in the state after eminent state personalities. Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, former HDMC corporator Shivanand Muttanavar said the meeting will be held at 10am at the Hotel Cubix auditorium. He said the govt already wrote to the Centre recommending names of Sangolli Rayanna for Hubballi Airport, Rani Chennamma for Belagavi, Rashtrakavi Kuvempu for Shivamogga and Sri Jagajyothi Basaveshwara for Vijayapura in the Belagavi session. However, since no decision was taken so far, he said the meeting was called to exert pressure.Along with this, the committee strongly demanded that the 2nd terminal of Bangalore airport be named after Dr Rajkumar. He said Kannada film actors Saikumar and Ravi Shankar, and actresses Rachita Ram among others, would come to Hubballi to support the struggle, and added that prominent Kannada activists and pontiffs from various districts would participate, and the next date of the struggle would be announced then. Mallikarjun Savakar, Dyamanna Dongi and others were present.
