SWR achieves originating freight loading of 52.46 MT
Hubballi: South Western Railway (SWR) achieved significant milestones in freight loading, revenue generation and infrastructure development during the financial year 2025-26, overcoming operational challenges in performance.SWR said in a press release that the zone recorded a landmark originating freight revenue of Rs 5,347.4 crore, surpassing the previous best of Rs 4,672 crore achieved in 2024-25. Overall gross revenue also reached Rs 9,488 crore, reflecting a substantial increase from Rs 8,489 crore in the previous year and underscoring the zone's financial stability.In the passenger segment, revenue rose to Rs 3,468 crore from Rs 3,172.5 crore last year, supported by increased ridership. Passenger traffic witnessed a healthy growth, with 176.9 million passengers carried during the year compared with 165.5 million in the previous year. Among other revenue streams, other coaching revenue increased to Rs 329.5 crore, and sundry revenue reached Rs 342 crore, while parcel revenue grew to Rs 170.4 crore from Rs 166.4 crore last year. Commercial sundry revenue also registered a notable rise, reaching Rs 121 crore against Rs 92.8 crore in the previous year.
Additionally, ticket checking revenue saw a substantial increase, rising to Rs 70.7 crore compared with Rs 53.61 crore in the previous year, further contributing to overall revenue growth.SWR also made substantial progress in infrastructure development, further strengthening its network. The electrification of 53km route was completed during the year, taking the total electrified route length to 3,339 out of 3,712km under SWR's jurisdiction. In addition, the zone commissioned 24km of new railway lines and completed 78.1km of double lines, thereby augmenting capacity and improving connectivity.
