HYDERABAD: Banjara Hills police have booked a suo motu case against a 19-year-old for performing dangerous street stunts on his scooter and uploading videos of the act on social media, officials said.
The accused identifed as Md Shadab, a delivery executive from Devarkonda Basti in Road No. 5, Banjara Hills.
A case was registered under Section 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the BNS and Section 184 of the MV Act on Monday.
The videos went viral on Instagram, showing the rider performing risky stunts on roads near KBR National Park, Shameerpet and other parts of the city.
On Monday evening, Constable Y. B. Prasad of Banjara Hills police station lodged a complaint after noticing the reels online. Based on the footage, police traced the scooter using its registration number.
“The person was driving in a rash and negligent manner by performing dangerous stunts on public roads, thereby causing danger to public safety and endangering human life and personal safety of commuters and pedestrians,” the constable stated in his complaint.
According to Banjara Hills Inspector S. Suhasan, Shadab is a school dropout working as a delivery executive and did not possess a driving licence. The scooter, registered in his mother’s name, was seized by police.
Officials said the accused’s mother may also face legal action for allowing an unlicensed person to use the vehicle.
