Family alleges medical negligence in youth’s death

Kochi: Family of a 22-year-old man, who died at a private hospital in Ernakulam, have filed a medical negligence complaint against the hospital with Ernakulam Town South police station.Deceased was Ayyappadas, a native of Tripunithura. He was scheduled to undergo a surgery on March 10 for a minor tear in his leg ligament. He had suffered the injury when his scooter overturned after a dog jumped in front of the vehicle on Feb 12. The family said that Ayyappadas was taken on a wheelchair for surgery around 7pm. After an hour, the hospital authorities informed his parents that he suffered a cardiac arrest after being administered anaesthesia. His death was later confirmed around 10pm. Ayyappadas's postmortem was conducted at Govt Medical College, Kalamassery, and his funeral was held at Tripunithura public crematorium on Thursday. Following the complaint, police have registered a case of unnatural death and began an investigation.
