Kolhapur: Four people drowned in river waters in four separate incidents across Kolhapur district between Wednesday and Thursday.
The bodies of the deceased in these drowning incidents were fished out of the water on Thursday. In the first incident, 25-year-old Shahbaz, a resident of Mirganj in Uttar Pradesh, drowned in a canal at Kasba Sangaon village in Kagal tehsil. His body was fished out of the water around 6pm.
In the second incident, Sanath Anita Varale (30), a resident of Nagala Park in Kolhapur, drowned in the Dudhganga river at Kalokhe Doh. Sanath was sitting on a rock near the waterbody when he slipped and drowned. After an overnight search operation, his body was found on Thursday. The incident was reported at Radhanagari police station.
In the third incident, 42-year-old Ramesh Maruti Burud, a resident of Wakre, Karvir tehsil, drowned in the Bhogavati river at Wakre in an attempt to save his niece.
In the last incident, Prem Satish Bagdi (23) drowned while swimming in the Bhogavati river at Avali Budruk in Radhanagari tehsil. Radhanagari police informed that Bagdi went into the river around 3 pm on Wednesday. After entering the water, Prem misjudged the water level and drowned. His body was fished out on Thursday.
The district administration has appealed to the people to avoid entering water bodies and not to risk their lives. In the last week, 10 lives have been lost due to drowning across Kolhapur district.
